Greetings all,

I've looked and looked, but can't find the type of D2 that BM is using in their line up. There are a few different types out there, but from what I've heard in the knife community, the Crucible AIRDI-150 D2 is the best. It's clean, doesn't rust as readily, and doesn't warp during heat treat.

If someone knows the type BM is using, could you please post it.

Thanks in advance!

If it rusts, depends on heat treatment, not where the steel comes from. I guess nobdy here and i mean NOBODY who didn´t took a special chemical analysis can tell if Crucibles D2 is cleaner than others.

As long as 40% of steel production comes from old steel, there will always be some little impurity in every steel. And that is no problem.

BM does a normal ht for edge retention and rust resistance, they also do a freezing before tempering. They get their steel from Crucible or other suprime steel mills like pacific steel.;)

Sorry I don't know what Benchmade uses, maybe you could post this on their forum found on their website www.benchmade.com.

But there are at least 2 versions currently availble.

and

And also, REKAT had a small run made of D2 E or Enhanced from Crucible that they used for a while.

Most companys and custom makers seem to like the Crucible product.

All of this info comes from Neil Blackwood aka Dr. Lathe that he posted on another forum.

My info came from Steve Ingram from BM. It don´t have to be all supliers, but those two are proven.
