I picked up a Vic SAK at one of the local hardware stores the other day, and I'm trying to figure out what it is. It came on a blister card, rather than in a box. It has the large blade and small blade, can opener, bottle opener, wire stripper notch, small screwdriver, large screwdriver and a punch/awl and philips screwdriver on the back side. It reminds me of a Vic Spartan, except with the nylon scales and a philips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew. Any ideas what this one is called?

I only paid $9.00 for it, so I'm thinking I got a good deal:D

I have seen reference to the economy line before. Exactly what is the difference between them and the standard line?

Thanks

The biggest difference is that the Eco line has nylon scales with a dull almost sort of pebble finish, instead of the smooth cellidor scales. I think this is a better handle material as it does not have the cellidors achillies heel to some solvents like the regular handles. The eco lone nylon handles should be made standard on all sak's. Better grip, better durability.

I think the Nylon handles feel more solid than the Cellidor scales on my Spartan.

Other differences are that the Victorinox shield is surface applied and not inset and is more prone to wearing off. Also, the Econo line, while using all same quality ingredients, undergoes fewer quality control checks than regular models. Remember that all Nylon handled knives are not Econo. All of the current 111s have Nylon scales but are not Econo models.

i have one econo line-as above at the first post but also has scissors-jumped on it just because it was unusual to me-in examining all implements they are indistinguishable from the regular line

i too think they are of virtually equal quality to the celidor line-simple, cool little knives
