Which watch?

I have rarely ever worn a watch (just about never). I wanted to see what watch you wear, photos welcome. I've had a look at the leatherman clip and carabiner watches and quite like the look of those. Are they any good? Or should I stick with wist watches. Is so what is better -
wrist strap - nylon, leather, metal
face - tritium, GID
digital, analog, both
batteries, self winding

So any recommendations I would like to keep it under $100 because i'm pretty harsh on my gear and I know it will get scratched up over time.

Hey Guys..

Nick....

Seriously ??

How can you go day to day without a watch ??

Anyhoo...

I just use a normal every day Timex Edpedition Digital Compass...

I don't need to make a fashion statement, so I'm not spending more than $60 on a watch...

The way my watches get Beat on,,buying an expensive watch would be a waste of money...

Just curious--if you rarely wear a watch, what inspires you to ask about one now?

If you let us know what kind of activity you plan on having your watch with you we may be able to provide more helpful suggestions.

i used to wear watches all the time till i got a cell phone, then i had no use for one

Well, I for one am very dependent on "time" and schedules...just the nature of the job. For me, I like the simplicity of an analog watch. I also like tritium hands for illumination...7 days out of the week here in Iraq, I'm up when it's dark and get back to the rack when it's dark.

I'm currently using a couple of watches here in Iraq. Pretty much I'm wearing and using a Luminox, which works quite well. However, I use the excellent Casio Solar G-Shock for both a wake up alarm and for physical training...using the stop watch and timer. Another great Solar powered watch is Citizen's Eco-Drive...various models, pretty tough and well priced. Here's the one I own: http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=6778

I really like automatics, but if you "rarely" wear a watch and forget for a day or two, you'll be constant having to reset. Seiko's automatics are good watches for a good price and well built.

As for bands, I usually just use a good resin band. I like leather for "dress up", but not for daily use. I like the looks and robustness of a good stainless link-band, but they rip the crap out of the hair on my wrist and are not very comfortable (for me).

My redeployment watch (present) is going to be a Marathon G-Sar.

I don't really know why I've never worn a watch (I do have one that I sometimes wear wore for school). i always seem to get by weatherit be from a friend, clock, or just by estimating. Lately I've been doing more hikes and cycling, and I always find that I either go home to early - thinking it will get dark soon, or going home late. So i would like the watch for outings and school.

A watch is a very important piece of gear for my job as a Med Tech. I really like my Hamilton Khaki Navy for checking vital signs. The nice smooth movement of an automatic's second hand is great for it. That said they are not cheap watches, and if you don't wear it 24/7 or remember to wind it, it will stop.

I would recommend a Casio G-Shock.

I wear a Seiko Diver automatic 200mtr wr

It has good lumibrite hands and the overall watch is very robust. It comes with a stainlesssteel band or a resin band. I prefer the resin, it's just more comfortable for me.

Just a great watch for the money!

Most of the time I wear this Casio G-Shock (I received it in a trade here on the forums and I am very happy with it)...

And sometimes I wear this Citizen Promaster automatic diver's watch just for the heck of it (I don't dive but I find the diver's bezel to be very handy for timing things, and the lume is usually better on diving watches)...

But if I'm attending some function where I have to wear dressier clothes (very seldom) then I wear this all titanium Citizen Eco-drive...

I must admit, out of them all, my favorite to wear is probably the G-Shock.
I really like the vibration alarm...very cool.

Casio G shock all the way!!! I submerge it, beat it and smack it on things and it has never failed me.

Lots of nice watches :)
I never could get used to wearing one though
I tried pocket watches , too bulky .
Now a cheap Timex Indiglow with big numbers and a second hand
is always in my front pocket. I just use the loop to keep the straps
together like a fob.
It did go through the washer and dryer and still keeps perfect time ,
but the indiglo hasn't worked since :o
Thats what works for me. And " Keeps on ticking "

Casio Mudman, or my Nike Oregon series with altimeter, compass, barometer and thermometer. Very handy in the woods.

My favorite current watch is a Timex Ironman Triathalon. It has a special tinted lens that makes the digital face easier to read in desert sunlight. I don't recall, but I'm sure it cost less than $50. It's similar to this one:

At WalMart the other day I saw a Casio digital watch that receives the atomic clock signal. That would be my next watch if I needed one, about $80.

One thing I don't like, nylon bands. I had a nice Timex Expedition with a nylon band, but it was constantly soaked with sweat and quickly became too skanky to wear.

I do have a nice watch for wearing to town, a Citizen EcoDrive. It looks nice, but my arm hairs get pulled in the metal band. It was a gift so I don't know the retail price, but I bet it was more than $100.

If I were you, I'd go to WalMart and pick out one or two inexpensive watches that catch your eye. Maybe a $50 digital and a $50 traditional? The thing about watches, they all keep time. And they can all get lost, scratched, smashed, etc.

Happy Shopping,

I have the same watches as AllenC, a G-Shock and a Promaster. I seem to wear the G-Shock all the time for walking/camping type stuff, they are light, tough as hell and mine even has a Camo strap so it looks the biz !!!:D

I wear a Wenger "Swiss Military" dive watch on a Zulu band. I think the current price is under $75.00 at Costco. This watch has been flawless.

This is the one I use, a gift from my wife; a Dakota Angler II. It is a clip watch, and since I got it I haven't got back to wrist watches. It retails for $79.95 and IMO it's a bargain for what you get. It has analog / digital display, an integrated liquid filled compass, Celsius / Fahrenheit thermometer, Red L.E.D. micro light, hook sharpener, and a attached stainless steel nippers. The case and carabineer are made of aircraft aluminum and is water resistant to 100 feet.

Have I mentioned that I love my wife? :D

No need to spend tons of money on a watch for that. Any Casio watch over $20 USD should cover your needs. I have a Casio calculator watch that cost about that much. I bought it over 5-6 years ago, and the watch, and the original battery is still going strong.

A Casio G-Shock would be better if you need something more rugged.

There are other electronic watches that also include a compass, handy if you're hiking or biking.

As mentioned above, save your money for girls (and beer)!

+1 for citizen eco drives....i have 3 two nighthawk and a army....best watches ever owned...i have timex too and they are good but i tend to break them 1 every year or so...had the nighthawks 3 years and they are strong as the day i got them....
