To tell you the truth brother...I dislike res-c altogether, but the least offensive type I've handled personally is on the OMG gladius. Busse & kin handles are all over the road as far as ergonomics, most are ill-fitting to my hand. I prefer G 10 slabs, but canvas micarta will do.

I love the large Basic grip on many knives, but for me it was too small to offer confident control of the CG BB13. I have medium-size hands and still had to wrap the grip with tape to get the control I wanted. The Choppacabra appears marginally larger, possibly heavier than the CG BB13, so I expect the issue will be even more noticeable.

I love the handle style on the DT12, and it’s available here (Free Rein), but the DT12 only weighs 20-21 oz—less than a BB13. And the BB13 is more nose-heavy. By the specs on this new bolo the DT12 handle may not be enough.

I’m not a fan of the looks of the Regulator handle—always appears out of alignment with the blade to me—but it’s the thickest/longest of the three grips offered and should give the most control. Seems like the obvious choice.

While I like the Basic handle on my original BB13 I find that the Regulator almost acts a guard on the blade to prevent your hand slipping forward.

Secondly I find the Regulator the most grippy of all the Res-C versions.

Lastly the Free Rein handle for some reason feels slick to the touch or grip and I have less confidence in the handle.

I know this subject has been beat to death but this is my honest opinion.

The grippy nature of the Regulator handle is a definite plus. 👍 As for the Free Rein style, some of those handles have been hard and slick and some softer and grippier. Apparently it depends on which Resiprene formula they use. The DT12 handle to me is soft and grippy. But it’s not as thick/long as the Regulator handle, so possibly not as much control, which to me is probably the biggest issue with this new design. The Regulator style covers the most bases, IMO.

Thank you, FreeDumb—appreciate the comment.

I will say that I believe the lack of drop in the Free Rein handle has a lot to do with how fast the DT12 is for its size. The Free Rein handle is virtually dead straight. I think the Choppacabra with Free Rein handle will benefit from that design as well. The Regulator handle is also a relatively straight design with little if any drop, so should also benefit in terms of quickness/control compared to the Basic handle, which has considerable drop at the butt. Looking at the pic of all three styles, the difference in how much more drop the Basic handle has is obvious. And the Basic handle has actually been straightened a little (drop angle between handle and blade reduced) on most models since the original BB13’s were made.

The problem with this kind of analysis is trying to make real-world comparisons when all we have to go on are line drawings—and we have no idea how much variation may show up between the drawings and the final product. Best guesses are really all we can do.

Regulator for sure. The free rein handle is nice, but to me the regulator handle has slightly more cushion, which I like. Now if you prefer harder handle the free rein handle may be it. The regular basic is nice but I prefer the other two.

So for a big chopper, you guys think the regulator is best? I don't have any experience with it and had selected the big basic. I have rather large hands, so if someone with mediums is saying that it didn't work well on the BB13, I'm gonna have to ask to change up my order. I had assumed the slightly offset nature of the basic would be a pro for a chopper.

I definitely prefer it.

So I have a BG BB13 and the 1311 and also wear a large glove. I always want a little more cushion and wiggle room and have wished for a Regulator handle on both. It was a no brainer for me to order Regulator.

If you look at my pics posted in the actual blade thread. My ring finger is 12.5. I’m not David Brown endowed 🤣 but don’t consider myself to have dainty hands. 😂

I have meat puppet hands and a size 16 ring finger, so I went ahead and emailed the shop to ask of I could change my handle selection haha. Thanks for all of your helpful input on the matter, Gents! I appreciate it.
