Which whittler for me?

Hey folks. I've had my eye on a couple of whittlers for quite a while now and I finally got together enough change to buy one of them. I'm looking at either the GEC Geppetto Whittler or the GEC Easy Pocket Whittler. I'm having a terrible time deciding between the two. There are nice handle materials in both so I'm not too worried about that. I like the extra 1/4" on the Easy Pocket but I like the wider main blade on the Geppetto. Also not sure how the Geppetto handle will feel in my hand, it's kind of an odd shape.

If anyone wants to share their opinions, experiences and/or pictures (everyone loves pics) please feel free.

Are you talking about the Easy Pocket half Congress (2 blade)

Or the Courthouse Whittler 3 blade

?

And are you going to be whittling with it, or just using it for general utility?

I find the Geppetto confortable to use for long periods, although the extra width of the main blade makes it a bit more difficult to get into the corners for detail work.

I was talking about the Courthouse 3 blade. I might have confused the name :) I would like to try some whittling but it would most likely fall into my EDC rotation.

Wow, I've seen a ball in a cage but never dice inside a cage inside a cage. Very nice work.

One thing to keep in mind with a whittler pattern is how far the closed master blade protrudes from the handle when you're using one of the small secondaries. I like both patterns a lot, but I find the lower profile of the closed master on the #62 more comfortable in the hand. OTOH, I prefer the small clip/coping combo offered by the #57 to the #62's small pen/coping combo. Either way, you'll end up with an excellent knife.

Smcclown05, I'm like you, lookin for a whittler to do some carving. Right now I use two Old Timers and thought it would be nice to have one whittler. Oh, and I would get to buy a new knife! I think I'm steering towards the 3 blade courthouse because of the more narrow main and the rounded tip on the pen blade. The Geppeto has no rounded tip. I also like the longer length of the courthouse. Also, Boker just came out with a "Carver's Congress" in rosewood that looks promising. It was designed by a carver. I'm between the courthouse whittler and the Boker.

I have both the Geppetto (Tidioute buffalo horn) and Courthouse (Northfield coconut palm) whittlers but no pics, sorry guys I'm not much of a photographer and my wife looks at me like I'm crazy if I ask her to take a pic of my "stuff".

They're both beautiful knives, fit and finish are unbelievable and both feel good in the hand. While I haven't actually done much whittling (yet), I have made some fuzz sticks with both :D and the Tidioute feels a little better in doing so. It may just be my hand shape, I don't know, but both are fantastic knives. The buffalo horn feels terrific in the hand, and the coconut palm is truly unique, it picks up colors as you move it around but in a different way than any other figured wood I've seen.

6 months ago I never even heard of GEC, all I knew were Case and Buck. Now I have 8 (2 whittlers, 4 jacks, 2 pens) and I can see more in my future.

They're still cheaper than my last obsession (watches) though not as easy on the wallet as my Zippo collection!

Thanks for the input so far guys. Not sure if this is making my decision easier or more difficult:)
