I'm only interested in using the KO Blade Grinder attachment and was wondering if it would work on a normal Work Sharp or if I'd have to get the Ken Onion Work Sharp.
If the normal Work Sharp works, would it have variable speed or is that something only the KO Worksharp has?
Thank you.

I have the Ken Onion version. The only difference I can tell is, you can use the wider belts. I believe that's it. I hope this is helpful.

The original work sharp does not have a variable speed motor, it is fixed at 3600 SFM. My understanding is that the blade grinder attachment is a KO attachment and will not work with the original work sharp but I could be wrong about that

flphotog is right... The BGA only works on the KO Edition, which is also the only one that has variable speed.

Yup you have to get the Ken onion edition for the grinding attachment. It's well worth it thou as you get outstanding results rather quick

Do these rip metal off a bit quick.
Depends, if you run an extra coarse belt at full speed on a steel that isn't really wear resistant then yup you're gonna hog off allot of steel very fast....a high wear resistant steel won't be as bad but you're still removing steel quick....if you use common sense and use the appropriate belt with the correct speed then steel removal is more controlled.

Using the coarsest belt it comes with, it will still take time to rebevel a knife. I bought 80 and 100 grit belt 3" x 18" sander belts and split them 1" wide to make it faster. But having said that, you still need to take your time.

I think only the KO model has interchangeable attachments.
It is much more comfortable to use than the stock attachment for sharpening.
I wear a headlamp so I can see the burr when it appears.
