well im out lookin for an edc and have come to three choices: they are as follows: CRKT Lightfoot Urban Shark, Camillus EDC and Outdoor Edge Paragee... What would u choose as ur EDC?

Best steel in Paragee --> Paragee. If you are considering more expensive versions of EDC (talonite over 200$ and 154CM about 100$) then EDC.

the reason why the LUS is there in the list of three is because for a knife that price it can perform to a certain degree (M i right?)...N in fact i kinda wanna buy that because of the price i can get it for $27.

oh and why dont we add the med impulse to that list. so its the LUS, the EDC, Paragee and the impulse. also, does anyone know which of these can be taken apart and self assemble(if the need arises)?

If you're choosing between the standard Camillus EDC in 420HC steel and the Outdoor Edge Paragee and the CRKT LUS, I would recommend the Paragee over the others. If you are willing to spend a few more dollars you can get the Camillus EDC in 154CM steel which would hold a better edge.

Also, both the EDC and the Paragee are designed for easy cleaning so you really don't need to take them apart. You could do so with the proper tools but I personally don't see a need to do so. I just rinse mine in warm water if its too dirty, dry it and apply some Break Free to the pivot area and wipe the rest of the knife down with Tuf-Cloth.

I only own one of the four you've mentioned, but I'd gladly recommend the Camillus EDC as a very well made and very functional little folder.

Three cheers for the Camillus EDC!!!!!

(The crowd does a knife nut version of the wave and stabs each other with their EDCs)

Well, it seems that you and I do agree on something after all Bronco. ;-) I also submit my vote for the EDC. It's one helluva knife for the price.

I haven't played with the LUS or Paragee. I did have a CRKT Mirage that was OK for $20 -- gave it to my mom for her purse.

I have the 154CM version of the EDC. Haven't used it to speak of -- actually, I tossed it in my shaving bag so I'd be sure of having SOMETHING if I forgot to bring my normal EDC (medium TnT) with me or loose it while traveling.

Seems like an OK knife, especially for the price -- $50 on sale.

Mike

Of the three examples you've given, my choice would be the Camillus EDC hands down.
I tried the others, and personally, I liked the overall package on the EDC better.

Yes, the OE Paragee has better blade steel, good looks, a Frame Lock and a re-curved blade, but I had difficulty using the thumb stud they are using on it. It was too slick for me and my thumb kept slipping over it.:(
It is a really nice knife for the low price, though. Well worth a look.

I have a CRK&T LUS(small) and it is a strong and sound design, is comfortable to hold and use, but that Frame Lock and that bit of finger protection on the EDC nudged the LUS out.
Also, the re-curved blade is ground thinner at the edge than the LUS, and is a better cutter for me.

And ... it's the one I own, in 154CM, great knife for the price. :)

Well said El Cid! I would only add that the talonite EDC is REALLY my favorite!!!:D :D But about $145 or so!

I found the small Impulse at Knife Center. They are asking $45. The knife has a 3" blade. Shootist16, Dennis Bible, sells knives. Sometimes his prices are lower than some of the web dealers. He now has his own website. He posts on this forum and the Spyderco forums regularly.

I own the large Impulse, and the other 3 knives. I haven't handled the smaller Impulse. But, if it is anything like the large model, it is one heck of a knife. THey have the Sandvik 12C27 (or whatever) blade steel. Not a super steel, but known for its small grain, and good stain resistance. And, it takes a wicked edge.

OOB, the Paragee was much more impressive than the EDC, to me. As the EDC has broken in, and the detente doesn't have such a terribly firm grasp on the blade, and the locking bar can be moved with one hand, most of the time, it has risen in my estimation.

I've had the LUS for quite awhile. It still strikes me as a very good knife, very well designed. It feels very good in my hand, and the blade is certainly designed for thrusts/stabs. (I think it would slash okay as well.) The action on mine has always been very smooth, and the lockup excellent. No problems with spine whack or torqueing with my hands.

The Paragee feels better in my hand than the EDC. But, the EDC has a wider blade and therefore handle as well, which I like. Though not so pronounced as the EDC's, the Paragee's blade is also recurved. The Paragee should be obtainable for no more than $40.

From my perspective, I think it probably should boil down to how much you wish to spend. I think the LUS is a fine little knife. I believe it would serve you well. Were I to have to choose from the group for self defense, it is the knife I would choose. I'd put the Impulse 2nd. The Paragee has more point to its blade than the EDC. But, the EDC is the most versatile/utilitarian knife of the bunch. With the 154CM steel, it outclasses the others in that department.

You could always buy one of the less expensive models, and if it doesn't satisfy, recoup part of your original $$ by selling the knife here -- if you're a Gold Member. Then you could try another. If money is tight now, and you expect that to improve in the fairly near future, I'd go with the LUS, then buy a different knife when you've got more bucks.

Remember this -- the Spdyerco Delica is going to be changed to VG-10 steel in the fairly near future. IMO, if it doesn't get too much more expensive, that might be the best 3" knife of the bunch.

I now have 2 of the talonite EDCs by Camillus and if you can save your money then you should get one. These babies are like scalpels for sharpness and they just slide through meat like it not even there.
This is my current EDC but I have a CRK large Sebenza on its way to me so there is going to be a battle in my knife drawers to see which one gets to ride in my right front pocket...even if the Sebenza wins, I will also have the talonite EDC at least in a back pocket.

Buy a good one the first time and you won't have to look back.
