Which would you carry where and why?

Christmas is just around the corner and I've already decided what I want. A Ka-bar, a CRKT M16, and a S&W tanto neck knife. I'm a little "if-y" on the neck knife cause I wouldn't know what to use it for. Ka-bar is for home and the M16 is for EDC. So which knife would you carry where and why? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a knife to replace the S&W if I decide not to get it. Any ideas? It has to be within that price range(20$) Thanks.

A Ka-Bar is always a trusty choice, but if you´re willing to spend a little more money, take a look at the Swamp Rat line of knives.

A CRKT M16 is an excellent choice, a real bang for the buck. It´s my EDC at the moment.

I like neck knives, but they have to be really small to be comfortable. I´d rather buy an Emerson La Griffe, but since you want a more inexpensive neck knife, check out the CRKT Neck PECK.
The Tanto shape isn´t too practical, and the S&W is quite heavy and bulky for a neck knife IMO.
Neck knives are especially great when pocket space is limited due to light summer clothing.

How about a Arclite?

I agree with frank k. I'm very happy with my Arclite as a neck knife. I think that everyone should have a Ka-bar because it is an American classic. I feel very comfortable in the woods with my Ka-Bar.

Ka-Bar's are actually good:D ? Cool:D, I have a USMC Ka-Bar and I never knew that it was actually a well made knife. I'm a little sceptic on the blade coating, its black, is it teflon or something?

This is mine, How good and trusty is it:

Well, it got the U.S. Marines thru a good portion of the last century.
It's actually a very decent field knife. Even though the stock is 5/32", it does all the things a knife was meant to do and even some things a knife should never be called on to do.
Of course, YMMV(sorry to be cliche).
I've had one since I was a young teenager and it has served me well(MAN! That was a long time ago). I was heartbroken when it got lost in a move and my sweet little old Mother-in-law found one in a thrift shop and bought it for me(It's in fine shape too) so I still have one on hand.
I've upgraded now to the D-2 steel version.

The good ol' Ka-Bar is still a solid piece of cutlery.

Regardless of which neck knife you get, once you get used to the concept you may just fall in love with it.

I have several neck knives, custom and production, and they all get regular heavy use. For the most part it's around the house where I tend to wear shorts without pockets.

I normally carry a small folder to back up my larger one, on weekends I'll throw a small neck knife on to back up the larger blade instead.

I deffinetly agree with the Arclite assessment. For $20, its the best knife I have seen. Great size and shape and sheath works well (and is compatable with Tek Lok). I wrapped the handle of mine with a bit of boot lace and its very comfortable. I would have to say its one of the best values out there in a nice small, fixed blade neck knife (or belt knife if you drop the extra $8 for the Tek Lok buckle)

For pretty much the same amount of money as the Ka-Bar you can buy a Becker C/U 7. It's full tang, has better grips that won't rot and is simply a stronger knife. And it has a much better sheath.

Or the Buck Knighthawk, a great knife for little money. Great full tang handle, 1/4 inch think blade and mine has stood up to more than I should have asked it to. My fav knife in this price range.

As for neck knife check out the CRKT Bear Claw. I've got one and am VERY happy with it. I think it goes for 39.95 or so. Maybe you can find it cheaper.

As for an edc folder, check out:
Cold Steel Voyager
Spyderco Endura
Camillus EDC
CRKT- check out the whole line especially the M-16

You stated you are looking at the M-16. I don't have one but people around here always have good things to say about it. Take that as you will.

There are more good folders out there, just I'm much more of a fixed blade fan.
One of the very few I think.

The Arclite looks a bit like a throwing knife and I don't know what the authorities would say if they catch one on me but that seems like a reasonable knife to get. Thanks, guys.

As an alternative to the Kabar you might want to check out the Greco flat grinds that are currently on sale. I have both, and the Greco just blows the Kabar out of the water in terms of strength, comfort, and cutting performance. The sheath is better too.

Of the three you mentioned, I would end up doing just about everything with the M16. I'm certainly not going to carry a Kabar around town or at the office, and I haven't found neck knives to be an better than a quality folder for general work.

Get the good old fashioned Kabar. The leather handles are FINE. I get so tired of people worrying about the leather handles rotting.

Get a better sheath for it and it will serve you well for generations.

Sometimes new and fancy and high -tech are just not needed.

The Marine combat knife, either from KaBar or Camillus is a good choice. They are simply great. Around 35 bux, so it is priced right. And don't ever let somebody tell you that you need to worry about the leather handle rotting off. Sheesh. How do these people store their knives? Stick 'em into the ground in some jungle down Central America or something?

About $50 will score you the Becker C/U 7. Good one there too. Alittle bigger you say? Then spend $60 and get the C/U 9.

That Camillus ArcLite for $20 is an absolute steal. Gots ta have ya one of those babies if you are looking for a budget neck knife. Looks like a throwing knife? Hell, all knives look like throwing knives to me.

Thanks for all the input, guys. All these posts were very informative. I'm still sticking with the Black USMC Kabar serrated with Kydex sheath and the CRKT M16. And I have changed the S&W to the Arclite thanks to you guys:D . Thanks again.

Arclite as neck knife because size, weight, and conceibability. SERE Operator because its under 5.5in and not a dagger. I would rather have a Applegate-Fairbain if legality weren't an issue. For a folder I'd have the SERE 2000 because I've heard nothing but good things about it.
The quantity of the Operator and 2000 is a factor of where I go and when I am going. Sometimes I would just have the 2000 and the Arclite and other times I just might have to pack it on (hopefully never!).

I agree about the K-bar being a must have. It's kinda like how every gun guy should have at least one 1911. I bought the classic K-bar and I realy like the looks of it. I would have no problem depending on it in the woods.
