Given the choice between two NIB Buck 124 fixed blade knives - a pre-86 or one from the spring 2012 run - which would you chose? The older one is priced $23.00 more than the new one - I won't use either one - merely want one for the pride of ownership and to add to my 100 series collection. Thanks, OH

Thats a nice knife to have and admire from time to time. Either would be great. I'd go for the pre-86 model. Not birchwood but black phelonic. DM

I'd say the pre-86 as well but only if it was a burgundy micarta. That's just the way I roll.

When I have a choice of two knives of equal quality, I go for the older one.

Hi OH,

If this is going into your collection and not going to ever be used; then I'd get the older version as it will have more collectors appeal. If you just might use it then go for the newer version and leave the older one to remain a NIB collectors knife. Now, if you can swing it get them both. I say that because in time you will wish you had;)
