Which would you get...

Which sprint run Millie would you get if you had to choose between these two?

If you could only have one? Enquiring minds want to know. And if you want to share your reason why, please do.

In folders I prefer edge retention over toughness, so I voted 204P, although the 52100 would be more unusual and I'm sure you wouldn't be unhappy with it.

That...is actually a question I answered myself the other day when I chose to pick up the 204p instead of waiting on the 52100. For me it comes down to familiarity with the steel, the stainless aspect, and the edge retention.

I still may try to pick up a 52100 (especially since they go the CQI changes), but for now, it's the 204p for me.

Two extremely different steels, almost opposite ends of the spectrum.
52100 done right has THE major property I require for a general purpose blade, especially given the millie blade grind.

Went with 52100 mostly out of curiosity. I have a bunch of blades with 20cv and I'd love to check this one out!
Isn't it great that we get this many choices??
Joe

Don't plan on getting either, but if someone forced me I'd go with the 204P version, on the assumption that it has to be more rust resistant than 52100 and the only thing worse than a knife with a wrong handed lock that's too big to fit in my back pocket would be a rusty knife with a wrong handed lock that's too big to fit in my back pocket.

On a knife like the Military I would value toughness over edgeholding/corrosion resistance so my Military is Cruwear.

I like 52100 a lot but voted 204P. We've had %100 percent Humidity lately and it got me thinking; Wouldn't be able to carry the 52100 daily lately, around here. Wouldn't be worried about the blade, just the area around the the pivot, inside the handles.

I'd go 52100. 204p isn't one of my favorites and even though I live in a beach town in the tropics, i'm not scared of carbon steels. Never had any issue maintaining them.

I've never had any issues with M4, K390(Mule), 3V & the likes. 52100 for me has been about as resistant to the elements as 1095, which isn't a major problem. A forced patina on 52100 has always fixed this without constantly worrying about oiling religiously.

Glad o_t_e started this thread. Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts, as well. Still debating which one myself. Can't front both Millies at the moment:)

52100 because it is a low carbide steel with a very good reputation, but is not commonly found in folders. I have no experience with it, and most of my other folders are in high carbide steels.

Sal wanted one for his own personal use, so you can be sure the heat treatment would be spot on.

Also, CF > G10 at the +- the same price.

I just read about 52100 and it looks like awesome stuff.

But I'm all about a good stainless steel so I choose 204P. I have yet to try either but 204P looks so sick PLUS it's stainless so that's what I want.

I always go with stainless for a potential work knife. I like 204p in my pm2. Hope I like with the Military.

I chose the 204p in the poll, but it's really a toss up. The 52100 would be really fun to try, particularly since is seldom (if at all?) used in other folding knives.

I'm kind of surprised by so many folks being concerned about rust. I would think just keeping it dry and/or dry would be sufficient to keep from rusting. People got by for many years prior doing that very thing.

52100. I am a lover of carbon steel. It holds a great hair popping edge , is ridiculously easy to get shaving sharp , it's tough ( AND l MEAN TOUGH) and it is one of my favourite carbon steels ( second only to 5160 spring steel). The only trade off is the lack of corrosion resistance , but if you keep it clean after use and keep it lightly oiled , then that is no problem at all.

The poll results are close. I was beginning to think that my indecision was borne of ignorance, but it seems that folks are very evenly split.

ETA: Of course, no sooner do I say this than the CTS 204P starts pulling ahead. Lol.

About the ONLY time that I see 52100 on a knife is in the fixed blade section. Ball-bearing steel; very popular with the bushy-folks.

i pick the CTS-204P just because i no a little more about this steel then the other!and i don't see 52100 offered in folding knifes that much!
