Roll stamped flat?

or

laser etched textured?

Would you collect the older roll stamped and keep them from harm, as a collection piece?

Or use the hell outta them?

I use all my Beckers regardless of paint or time of MFG.

I like the new texture but we strip the knives so they have less friction. Wont the textured finish have more friction? Also, I really like the looks of the laser etched but prefer rolled. However, I really dont care about that stuff in a knife, it will not make or break it for me.

Now for the roll stamped. I could see the roll stamp tweeners being high dollar in a couple years.

I'm nostalgic about the stamped Beckers because of the tradition at both Camillus and Ka-Bar.
But I'm going to like the laser etched just as well when it comes to using them.

I choose Laser, just because I have a few roll stamped and the change would make me think about buying the laser etched in the same models, just so I have both.

I will toss a vote up towards etched for users, but to be honest I would take etched and unetched for collecting (if I were so inclined). The thing about the etching that appeals to me most is that in that process there is no undue stress being put on the knife, where as with the roll stamping we saw first hand examples of how much stress is applied there (the bent 14's come to mind) and sure, they are hard use knives, but one has to wonder what that stress can do, especially in such a weird place on the knife. I think anything that can improve the nature of the manufacture of the knife in any mechanical way is a good thing, and removing a factor that caused an unknown amount of stress on a part of the knife that ultimately was different from where stress was designed to be applied is fantastic. The coating, meh, the end state of any BK&T knife is nekkid. Everyone knows that.

I like both but I like the roll stamped better. The coating comes off sooner or later, stripped or used. Beat on it whichever one though.

I voted rolled stamped, flat, use it. There are only two knives that I wont use and that's because they were each of my grandfathers. However if push came to shove I would use it just not abuse it like I do with my Beckers. I cant imagine myself owning a Becker and not using it. I don't have that kind of self control

Roll stamped user. Just a visual preference really. I'll be purchasing some of the new ones and will be just as happy with those I'm sure. With the exception of the BK10LE I ordered for my son, all of my Beckers will be users,,, perhaps even tortured if I try to do some of the things you guys do with yours!

I agree with Derek and Phil.
Laser is a way better method.

As for the coating, I think the more wear-resistant coating is good. I'd prefer it smooth. BUT.... I do have a belt sander and some worn belts.... that might make stripping the bevels-only pretty straightforward and extra-awesome.

I would say stamped. Because of the fact that we strip the blades. I would like to brand the BK&T proudly for life. Some people say that stamping causes weakness in that area of the blade but I think we can all say that these older generation BK&T's are proven tested tuff!

I don't think the etching will be coming off with stripper. The logo is etched into the steel.

And yeah, stamped or etched, they are tough as snot!!

I like the laser-etched and textured blade. I may strip it, anyway, but when I show them off to friends while we're camping / hiking, I think the etching it more professional looking than a roll stamp.
