1.The osborne has s30v steel and the HK has 154cm. Would is tougher and has all around more durability?

2. The HK has thicker steel, is that more useful then thinner steel?

3. What liners would be thinker between these?

I'm looking for the one that would be all arodun tougher and more rugged and have steel that is more durable then the other. I want to be able to take it to the thickest of the thickest in the woods and have it come back wanting more things to cut :)

It boils down to these 2...please throw in your educated opinion, thanks guys!

The HK knife is much more hand filling, and it has a much larger blade (even though they are the same length -- the 940 has a rather small blade.)

The 940 is much slimmer, geared more towards a gentleman's knife, whereas the HK was designed to be heavy duty. If that is what you're looking for, I would go with the HK.

so you think the thicker blade along with the 154cm steel would be a more rugged choice. What about the spacers used for the pivot piece?

I think 154 cmi s a little softer than s30v but i also think it holds a keener edge. This is just my experience. Both are great materials and both will serve you well. The thinnner blade will be a better cutter, but the thicker steel will make it stronger. Its your call and depends what you are going to do with them. I dont think either for the qualify as Extreme duty knives, so if you want something stronger get frame-lock. but for most people either should serve just fine. Choose based on aesthestics, buy what you like.

Personally i beleive the obourne would be easier to carry but that is just IMHO.

Good luck

I've been a big fan of the 941/943 pattern for a long time. I've had five variants, and still have a 941D2-CF and a 941 Ti-01 as a couple of my most prized and often used EDC knives. I think the pattern is one of the most well thought out designs around if you're looking for something that's light, slick and really sturdy.

I've had 941s with Benchmade's 154CM, D2 and S30V and that's the order I like them in. The 154 is very servicable. The D2 seems to take a very sharp edge and is very tough. The S30V seems to hold an edge forever and cuts like a laser!
The D2 is probably tougher than the S30V, but the S30V holds an edge longer.

To me, the two knives you've posted about are very different designs. The HK model seems stoutly built, but would be out of place in many situations where a 943 would be less controversial amongst the sheeple. I'm sure that they're both great knives, but I'd vote for the 943, especially if it's now available with S30V for a little more than $100.00!

wow very good feed back from you two thank you. What are some knives like these (serrated) that have the d2 steel. Anyone know?

You can get a Griptilian in D2, also the 710 and 910. All worth a look (the D2 Griptilain is only from one source, however...)

As a matter of fact, I think the current 710 in D2 fills the bill for what you are looking for.

As for the first two knives... I don't see the 943 being the best outdoors knife. I have several, and they are great knives. They are more of an urban/gentleman's (although on the big side) knife.

The HK... that is another matter... The Hk 34's are simply, flat out amazing knives. In a folder, I would not stress out over 154CM vs. S30V. Both are high end steels, and should serve you well. Keep in mind, these are folders... Benchmade's have never been the best for prying... Yet keep in mind they were made to cut!

Now, my only reservation with the HK's are the "rubber" handles. Now, they are tough... more like gun grip, then like Kraton feeling. Just to be anal about it, I would keep DEET away from them if in the woods. Other than that issues, the fit and finish, and feel of the HK's will flat out blow you away. I have two of them myself.
