I am trying to pick between a zt0452cf or a zt0456. I like both of them equally and cannot figure out which one to get. Just wanted to see which one you guys prefer.

Are you willing to carry a big knife? I voted 452 but it is large. Skinny, but long.

These two are extreme opposites imo. You want a stout fat heavy utility blade, get the 56. But if you want a long svelt tactical knife that can easily do edc tasks, then get the 52. Had both but have neither now. If I were to buy one again it would definitely be the 52.

Yeah, the 52 is nice. I consider it in the "tactical steak knife" family. It is a bit big to whip out in the office, although I sometimes do, but it will certainly do all your edc tasks with style. Including being the most awesome steak knife at the table, if you take it out at a nice restaurant.:D

I do not have a 56, and probably won't, as it is squarely in the unoffensive sedate edc class, and I already have a couple of others filling that role.

I came here to say this exact thing.

You know, I would totally see myself as a 0452 guy. It was my first ZT.

However, I bought the 0456 on a whim and felt a bit of buyers remorse, but the more i carry it, the more i like it. A bit heavy for an edc at times, but a complete tank. Full disclosure, the 0456 passed my spine tap test where the 0452 slipped off the lock. Ymmv.

I think the 0452 is a rather pretty knife but is there a reason you down to this odd couple of ZT's in the under $250 price range?

I have a 452 and never use it. It's a great art piece though. I'd go for a user instead like the 562.. Which also is a fun fidget knife also. If you get this one your sure to buy more zt's also cause you'll be amazed with it. I promise you that.

A number of times I’ve gone into a b&m to buy a 0452 only to leave without it. Each time I look at it in my hand I think “Yeesh...what a pocket sword!” It’s realisticly too big for me...but dang it’s awesome and I still want it.

No offense to anyone, but the 0456 has always struck me like a modified sheepsfoot potato....and a heavy one.

452 if you don't mind a bigger knife. It's still pretty light though and doesn't take up a lot of real estate in your pocket either. Just be ready for that super strong detent to to be murder on your index finger until it's broken in a bit :D

So very different knives.
I've had both.

The 0452 CF is a very pretty, slender, long and somewhat scary knife that carries rather small for it's size.

The 0456 is not very pretty, bulky, short and not very scary that carries very big for it's size.

The different blade shapes are good at different things. The 0452 is good at cutting food, poking cuts, long drawn cuts(cardboard). The 0456 is better at very hard cuts, things like rubber, rope, ect.. It also allowes for more controlled cuts because the shorter blade, but doesn't have the sharp tip, but that makes the tip stronger too.

I sold the 0452 CF because i found myself almost never using it because of it's size. It scares people and is hard to explain as a 'working tool', it's a bit too much knife for me. The length also makes detail cuts rather hard. I found myself reaching for my backup knife whenever i had to cut something with someone else nearby.

The 0456 i never carry because it found the grip not very comfy, the bladeshape doesn't work great for me( no real belly and tip) and the knife doesn't look as good. It also doesn't have a very great flipping action.

The knives i would suggest instead are the 0562 CF, or the 0920.

Both give you the almost the same robustness of the 0456, with the belly and tip you find in the 0452 CF and a more comfy handle than both the 0452 or 0456. I also find them very good looking and they have some of the best flipping action you can get in production knives(0920 wins that though).

Out of these 2 i would say, do you prefer CF and a less scary bladeshape, get the 0562CF. Do you like the recurve(great for cardboard ect), the titanium and the bigger blade, get the 0920.

I bought a ZT Knives 0452 CF, and then my brother who is a Chicago cop got jumped. I gave him the knife and he carries it everywhere. I am trying to get him to give up the ZT and move to a fixed blade like the Guardian 4 in M390.
