I am still waiting for a few thing to arrive in the mail, wheels for my grinder build, some knife making supplies and 3 blades I sent out to get HT ( Rob and Marilyn at Knifemaker.ca are the greatest people ever:thumbup:) and of course the knot for my brush conversion. I did how ever get a nice surprise when I went over to the shop today for my daily visit. One of our customers found out that I liked older razors and dropped this off for me

All I know about it is that it was his fathers in the war, he doesn't shave and his kids weren't interested in it so he gave it to me because I would appreciate it. I also know it is a New style head but seems to have a mismatched handle.

After a little cleaning It looks like this now, I can get it better and I will polish it more later.

I also got to thinking about when exactly I had my first DE shave. I made the switch on July 7th of this year. Whats funny about that is that I made this statement

I don't think I will turn into a DE collector so if anything I think the most I will do is buy a second 89L or similar razor for travel.

When I was putting the new old razor away I noticed this

I think I was wrong going from left to right I have
1950s Gillette Rocket Flare Tip with case (Canadian)
1948-50 Gillette Aristocrat
2010 EJ 89L
Unknown age Gillette New
1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable (H3)
1938-41 Gillette Fat Handle Tech
1949 Gillette Rocket with case and instructions (Canadian) on top

Looks like I was wrong about not collecting razors, good thing I have spent less then $50 on all of them and had 2 given to me. I also gave away a 1914 Autostrop and sold a Soluna travel kit and razor.

I don't have a problem do I?:D

If you are who I think you are your the reason all this started, and welcome to BFC:thumbup:

LOL, yes, I'm the guy who does the videos, if that's what you're asking.

No way!

The famous Mantic would not come to our little back-water forum... unless, of course, he was also secretly interested in knives too. But, then again, what guy isn't?

Well, anyway, welcome to bladeforums.com. I hope you'll look around the site a bit and maybe get involved in some of the other stuff too.

The shaving forum here isn't hugely active, but we enjoy the odd chat now and then. We will certainly look forward to your learned contributions.

Aha, I remember you making that statement. I actually chuckled at the time and thought "we'll see..."

You've faired far worse then me. I still only have the de89l, and a superspeed that I never use.

and is that really... no... It can't be. It's just Gollnick playing santa claus.
Though in the off chance its not. Warm welcome to the forum Mantic, you noble smooth cheek'd gentleman.

I actually have a 3 day beard, and now feel guilty about it. I am not worthy.

I actually feel kind of privileged that you first post was in a thread I started. I can't even count the number of people that I have recommended Mantic59s youtube videos to, and everyone of them have come back saying they have learned some thing.

Well of to the shower and give my new frankenrazor a try. I finally figured out what exactly it is. It is a Canadian #77 New head with a Probak handle. I was going to give it a run yesterday but the copper top had a flaw in it that was pushing the blade out of alignment in one place. After a few hours of gentle filing and some 2500 grit sandpaper I got it all trued up and stayed in spec. I guess knife making is good training for razor repair:p

It could get worse this weekend, I am going to a friends 10th anniversary for her antique store and told her I want to check out all the safety razors that she never put out to sell. Maybe I will score some real diamonds in the dust of her basement:D

Thanks for the welcome, all. I periodically "ego surf" on google to see if I'm mentioned in places that aren't "shaving related" (or if someone is trying to pass off my videos as their own) and saw a link to here. Coincidentally I was also doing some research on knives for a holiday gift (my father-in-law is big into certain types of knives) so I registered. :D

My first reply somehow got lost in the ether, so please excuse if this ends up being a duplicate post.

I periodically do a google search on my screen name, partly to see all the different places shaving is discussed and partly to make sure no one is trying to pass off my videos as their own. One such search lead me here. Coincidentally I was also looking around for some holiday gift ideas for my father-in-law, who happens to be big into pocket knives. So this seemed to be a good destination! :D

I for one am glad to have the real shave tutor stopping by our little slice of the internet, and look forward to any advice you have to offer.

As for the pocket knife for your father-in-law, I would gladly make him one, but I don't make folders and I am still working on perfecting fixed bladed knives:o The guys that roost over in the traditional sub forum would be able to help you much more than myself
