Got to say, some would say oddly enough, always in the back of my mind. Very important we never forget. Good post.

It is important to be reminded of this real meaning. Thank you! Thank you to all who have served. Especially those that didn't make it back home. Thankfully both my grandfathers were able to enjoy old age at home after WWII.

Sad that so many recognize Memorial Day only as the unofficial start of summer, and a big BBQ...

Always.

And not just on Memorial Day....everyday.

Thank a veteran, shake a hand, buy a beer, or cup of coffee....

Especially on Memorial Day, but also everyday...

This past Monday I was at the Ft Riley Veteran's Cemetary listening to taps during the service for Capt Lind of Charlie Co.
Of the 6 uncles and grandfather who served in WWII, only one great uncle remains.

Thank you Hawkhead......

I love my hot dogs and tater salad but, you are correct, this weekend should be about the sacrifice that others have made to keep us free.... May we never forget and always be thankful........

Agreed. Too many take our way of life for granted and/or abuse it on a daily basis. Those men and women who have fought, are fighting and will fight for us should always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the thread.

I took a walk today through the local cemetery that I drive past multiple times a week.

This monument was obscured for many years by a block wall, they later replaced the wall with an iron fence, and lo, there it was.

I didn't get good photos of all the makers marks, I will need to go back sometime.

Here is the plaque.

Remembering those Civil War fallen who inspired the holiday, as well as those who would follow.

Thank you.

Thank you.

TODAY I REMEMBER ALL MY BROTHERS WHO MADE THE GREATEST SACRIFICE FOR THEIR BROTHERS BESIDE THEM GOD BLESS THEM AND THE ONES THE LEFT BEHIND FOR US.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
