was perusing various kershaw sites and this forum and i stumbled across this little gem.

Whiplash is a new tactical fixed blade designed by some of my favorite designers, the hawks!. most definitely picking up one of these beauties. built-in lanyard and included sheath all for a street price of under 60 bucks with 8CR14 (not sure the specs but for the price who cares!).

these guys teamed with kershaw can do no wrong! go gavin and go grant!

It was originally named Sidewinder. It's in the new catalog on page 38.

Steel states it is 8CR13MOV.
I've seen this more than once already with something found online stating 8CR14 and the catalog showing 8CR13MOV.
Thomas, which is it? Or is it a typo one way or the other?

**Edit** I am reading the write-up about it in the catalog and they state 8CR14 with a PVD coating, but under Specs
it states 8CR13MOV with a black Ti Carbo Nitride. Now I'm really confused.

Usually associated with knives crafted in the People's Republic. The built-in weak section and all the nooks and crannies that would harbor bacteria take this one off my list, but it do look evil.

Are we back on THIS again? OD-2 says 8Cr14 on the pretty picture. Catalog says 8Cr13MoV....

Still a cool looking knife. I'll buy one!

heck yes. im committing to buying all kershaw hawk collabs and eventually a custom (way way eventually). besides, even if its a price point steel, we all know how to give it a wicked edge and just touch it up more often. no biggie for me.

Well, just waiting on some sheaths concepts to sign off on. Probably looking at 60- 90 days.

There already is one Whiplash out there. The one made by Brad Duncan. Why would Kershaw decide to name their blade the same as the one designed by a maker who's reputation is more then questionable... I guess I'll never know.

But seeing a new Hawk design is good enough for me. I was wondering when (or if) a larger variation of the KAT design would come out. 2 thumbs waaaaaaaay up!

Probably because we didn't know. I don't think Mr. Duncan having a custom knife named the Whiplash is going to really be a big deal, do you?

Mr Duncan's feelings sis the last thing I'm worried about. He's a talented maker, but his business ethics gave him a certain reputation. I'd just hate to see people, even mistakenly, think that he's now affiliated with Kershaw. For what it's worth, when I first saw the ad at thekershawstore.com's new products for 2009 section, before reading the description, that was my first thought.
Or maybe I'm just overreacting. In that case, please, accept my appologies.
