Whirlwind of Flashing Steel

Amazing. I'm surprised that all 3 robbers had Arabic names. Such people don't usually get involved in robbery, in my experience.

They're lucky the homeowner didn't have a loaded shotgun to hand or they would have lost their heads instead of fingers. What they ended up with were fitting punishments IMO.

This thread is worthless without pictures of pieces...

Pics would be nice, but it is not likely they will be forthcoming in "The Strib." It may have been just one of those synchronous things, but swords have been in the news quite a bit in the past few days. MN Public Radio had a long and sympathetic piece on the wisdom of the Scots in banning swords yesterday.

This in the Scotsman.com from the Land of the Claymore and Skean Dhu:

"Almost 30 people are admitted to hospitals in Scotland every week with wounds from bladed instruments. Earlier this month, a Glasgow man was jailed for killing a woman with a sword.

In a recent amnesty, more than 12,500 lethal blades, machetes and swords were handed over to police.

Rudi Crawford, an accident and emergency consultant at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, who has treated patients for sword injuries, welcomed the move.

He said: "Certainly, over the years we have seen sword injuries, some of which have been fatal."

"They are certainly among the range of weapons that are used by people. This reduces their availability except for legitimate reasons. I think if it saves one life or permanent disfigurement it is worthwhile."

All this excitement is causing me to view my 32 oz. Gelbu Special with renewed reverence.

I would like to know what kind of steel the sword was made of. They found pieces of the gun laying around.

Totally. When I was working at the bookstore, I always thought something like this would sell well. We could call it "Schadenfreude -- When Bad Things Happen to Bad People"... :D
