Whistle at Walmart

I picked up a Ozark trail (Coghlan's) Multifunction Whistle a Wally Mart (for $2.94). The black plastic whistle is pea-less and much louder than I expected. On top there is a button compass, on the bottom, there is a thermometer, and in the middle is a little plastic fold out magnifier. There is also a snap hook for attaching to your pack, key ring, zipper pull, ect.
Everything seems to work well. I thought someone might be looking for something like this for the kids or for their suvival packs. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the tip, it sounds like a nice little multifunction device. I haven't heard of it, probably because I avoid Wally world like the plague unless I'm going there for something specific.

Frank, Thanks for the heads-up on the multi-whistle at Walmart.

SoCam, Some of the stuff at Walmart is decent goods at cheap prices. I got a Storm whistle (loudest I've found so far) there, along with a $3 bag of fatwood firestarter and a cheapo pruning saw in plastic scabbard that has worked out well for me. Their price for lithium AA batteries doesn't seem too far off the mark compared to web prices when you add in the web shipping cost. Is there a political reason I should boycott Walmart (like they support anti-2nd Amendment causes etc)??

I've had one of these multifunctional whistles for abought 9months. I placed it on a neck lanyard and carry it while hiking. I have more expensive compasses but this one is handy and works just fine for general direction. I have used the magnifier to help remove splinters. When car camping with my family in the fall I hung it from the ceiling of the tent and the thermometer worked very well. My son now carries it while out in the woods. It's not fancy and shows no status but it works.

My brother has one, but I've yet to brave the aisles and lines to get my own. I guess Wally World is now on my agenda.

RokJok - I avoid Wal Mart mostly because of their business practices. They are known to consistently position themselves in small towns or specific areas of cities where they know the local businesses can't compete. Then they bring in Chinese goods with USA labels (true story) and call themselves "patriotic." True, they provide jobs, and true, they provide low-cost goods, but in my town alone they have made our historic downtown area and it's long-established businesses struggle beyond belief. And the stuff I buy there usually breaks, fades, or stops running much sooner than the goods I buy at other stores. And the jobs there are low-paying, so how much return is going back into the community when compared to the businesses that they forced out and the profits that are sent "back east"?

I do have a few good items from there, so I concede that Wally World is not all bad. I would just prefer to support locally owned businesses with my hard-earned dollars, even if I have to pay more.

Or maybe I'm just in a complaining mood. Sorry for the off topic.
