Whistles and lighters

Being an absolute gear Knut, I am always on the lookout for what is important and cool to carry. Does anybody else carry a whistle? It is an essential survival/emergency piece of equipment as per Doug Ritter in www.equipped.org. It makes sense that it is audible much further than the human voice and goes on long after you have lost your voice from screaming. I pack a black Fox 40 whistle which is a superb, referee sports whistle. check it out at www.trifoxco.com. It is a pea-less whistle with 5 chambers that works even in water and is ear-piercing!!!!

I also carry a Windmill Delta Storm, wind and waterproof lighter for emergencies as I do not smoke. A superb piezzo-electric system with hardy rubber casing, waterproof rings and lanyard. Anybody else carry lighters for this purpose?

Oh, I also have a silva water-filled button compass and a small wasp lock-back knife to complete my car key pouch setup.

Whistle - Windstorm (believe me when I say thay its MUCH louder than a FOX whistle)
Lighters - Delta Windmill Shockproof (not smoking kind also)
Compass - Suunta Waterfilled Watchstrap Clip-on with rotating bazel
Tools - Leathermann Micra
Light - Photon II
Knife - Spyderco Card

I have the following on a laniard:

--Victorinox Outrider in one of Normark's neck rigs.
--ARC AAA LED Keychain Light in Normark's mini-rig
--Modified (a la Doug Ritter's) Mini Fox 40. I also have one of THESE but prefer the the MMF40's compactness).
--Mini-Bic lighter in fancy biicycle inner tube neck rig.
--Luminous Suunto Clipper

My sister calls this my "Mr. T Survival Necklace"

A brief question:

What are advantages/disadvantages of the Windmill Delta vs. the Brunton Helios?

I'll still keep my lifeboat matches and Bics around, but I have been looking for a good lighter lately. (Again, not a smoker, but for the "kit".)

Someone in another lighter thread said the guts of the Windmill and Brunton are the same. Try a search. I tend to believe it. Brunton sells a bunch of stuff made by other people. Most of their compasses are the same as Suuntos or Silvas (I don't recall which). I plan to try a Windmill one of these days. I've got a Solo storm, but frankly it's junk. Until I get a Windmill to try I'll use my waterproof Bic carrier, which I made as follows for nothing:

1. Cut a piece of small diameter bycicle inner tube
2. Rubber cement one end together
3. Punch a hole in the glued end (or gromet it if you want to get fancy)
4. Carefully stretch the open end over the top of a Bic so it doesn't depress the valve.

I actually sort of collect whistles. When I started teaching firearms I began to pick up whistles regularly for range use. I probably have thirty or so....

Heads up for Fox40 fans, if you are ever at Niagara Falls they were selling souvenir 40s on lanyards for like $3.50 US.

Fox 40 in survival orange on my key ring.
Pocket Micro Torch in my pocket - and this is amazing.

[It is alleged by several sites that Special Forces use them; the two guys I used to know who were ex SF are no longer in contact - so I can't vouch for that]

[added - of course, I also carry a Traser, to see my keyring; a Photon II to see with; a swisstech micro plus to work with; a Comtech Stinger, guess why;sliver grippers for close work; a spy capsule with cash, to eat with]

Another neat emergency whistle is the Tool Logic SL1. It is a folding knife with an emergency whistle and LED flashlight.

PocketLights.com sells the Tool Logic SL1.

I have the Blazer torch. I got it from a web-store in the UK. Shippment to the U.S. was a little steep, but not that much more than most shipment within the U.S. See the "which lighter" thread in this forum for the store if you haven't found one already.

As for the whistle, its funny, but one of my daughters just returned from Yosemite Park and bought me a souvenere whistle. Don't know who makes it, but its a simple aluminum tube, about the size of an ARC-AAA flashlight. No ball, very loud and high pitched. Weighs next to nothing. Has a key-chain split ring hole, so now it rides on my neck chain along with my ARC-AAA flashlight.

Unfortunately, no one will ship this outside of the UK ??!!???
Anyone know where to get them in North America?

I guess this guy
http://www.hill.u-net.com/flame4.htm

could do it for you?

he says "PRICES TO USA AND OTHER COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE UK
The will only be a little more plus a Swiftair addition of 2.50 GB Pounds (3.55 US dollars) per package. The Swiftair fee will ensure that the order is on the first available plane and there is a tracking number which shows the date of leaving this country. We will tell you the full mailing cost when we acknowledge your order. There will be no gas in the torches so have a can of good quality butane gas cigarette lighter fuel ready. They take about a week to reach the USA destination."

I've no connection with this guy nor have I dealt with him, but it must be worth a shot.
