MDP- I have the Storm and Fox 40. The full size Storm is a handful in comparison but really loud. I can't quantify it but it is brutal and easy to hold. A lot smaller and less cumbersome to pack or wear is the fox. It too is loud but, subjectively not as "rich". The one I have glows in the dark. I bought it at EMS (Eastern Mtn. Sports). Both seem indestructible, although I haven't done the "Stamp Stomp" on them.

I like my modified (superfluous side pieces filed down) mini fox-40 just fine, haven't had to actually use it for anything other than making my roommate deaf yet though. I do wear it out boating just in case I do something stupid and need to attract attention to myself.

I haven't used many other types of whistles, but I do like not being able to overblow this one. Plus, they're small and unobtrusive enough to put just about anywhere (one of these, along with a white photon II, are the zipper/hood pulls on my parka).

Sorry! I know I am aggravating everyone wiht questions. I am a little new at all this and I want to know EVERYTHING! I appreciate all the help I have gotten from everyone.

I agree with Geoff - I have a small storm and the fox. The storm MAY be somewhat louder has a lower pitch(?)But the fox is plenty loud and easier to keep close. The storm is too large to keep around your neck or clipped to a zipper. Fox for me.

Most of the folks on Ski Patrol have either whistle and you can definitely hear them in the sticks.
