Just thought I'd share some pics from my trip to see some snow on Christmas Day.
I know, I know a bit late there Myke, but what the heck, I hope you all enjoy the beauty of the PNW anyhoo.
It's been a few years since we've had a White Christmas down here in the Greater Seattle Area and I was getting cabin fever pretty bad so I hit the road for the day.
First stop was a camp ground on the Beckler River to play with some knives and clear my head.
It sure smelled good out there. Not like Hot Pines in the summer, but a moist earthy smell with a hint of Alder and wet Firs.
Up river.
Down river.Smell it?Mmmm.
Knives.
I had to try my Shallot at making fuzz sticks.
The poor thing has ridden in my pocket for a few years now and has only gotten used for the occasional mail/package opening and box tear down.
The recurve blade made some nice curlies.
After playing with the knives I went for a drive up the road to take in the view.
Snow!
It's a White Christmas after all Martha!
Coming down I spotted this pretty little creek running towards the river as fast as it could.
Another part of the river off a side road I was checking out.
End of the line and my exploring for the day, time to head home.
It was wet out there, so wet I couldn't get a decent fire going. The wood for the fuzz sticks was a couple of short boards I found laying on the ground near the fire pit and it was too damp to take a spark from my ferro rod so I resorted to using my Bic to get it going.
I tried splitting some dead branches and some logs I sawed up, but they were soaked through & through so all I had for a fire was the semi dry boards.Oh well, now I see why Cody & Dave had so much trouble getting a fire going when they were up here in the Pacific North Wet.
Come on spring time.......
