I have a 4 year old bottle of white lightning bike chain lube. I used it to lube the pivot on my Sebenza and it opens very smoothly. From what I understand, the company was sold some time ago and the product was repackaged as knife and tool lube. Can anybody confirm this? Did I make a mistake by using this on my knife? What is your opinion on white lightning lube?

Thanks
Joe

I think it's great stuff. I've used it on a few folders and it seemed to work fairly well. It *really* worked on my Leatherman Wave though. I just applied it liberally to all of the pivot areas and I can pretty much flick it fully open with one hand.

One handed multi-tool...

Joe,
I did the very same thing not a week ago and also to a Sebenza. I think the stuff works great and I wouldn't worry at all about it being unsafe to use especially since they now have a similar product marketed specifically for the knife community. As far as I know the company hasn't gone out of business, in fact, I believe Cliff Stamp just recently mentioned their products in one of his posts. I know I've purchased their lube under the same White Lightening brand name within at least the last year.

White Lightning is definitely in business and offers "Knife Lube" in a small bottle, which will last for hundreds of treatments. They can give you all the spec's. We've tested it on numberous folders and multi-tools, it flows on wet and dries like a wax which prevents dust collection and makes the action operate smoothly. White Lightning also proclaims that the knife lube will prolong the life of the knife. It's good for bike chains and it's good for folders.

I have been buying it as a chainlube for my bicycle and have been using on folders for a few months.
Seems ok. But you do get a wax buildup that needs to be removed from locks and such as it does attract detritus like lint and such..
I think the formula has changed in the past year or so....my first couple of bottles were a pain in the arse as the nozzles clogged continually. The latest bottle is more fluid and seperates into clear and white fluids....you gotta shake BEFORE use as against after use in other activities.
I like it.....so far

It has gummed up my actions on several of my knives so I am not that thrilled with it. I have used it to clean out a dirty folder but I immediately rinse the stuff off.

Give me Tuf-Glide any day.

Kodiak,

You may have over-applied it. It works very well when used in moderation. The real advantage is that it's a dry wax lube that doesn't attract dirt and dust like oils and greases can. I've had pretty good luck with it personally. I've used Tuf Glide too and it's also fine.
