"white metal" alloy composition

I'm assuming that the "white metal" used in the buttcap/bolsters is nickel-silver, unless someone has any other information. Any idea?

Normally nickel silver. Glorified brass. No silver content at all. Also called German Silver. Essentially a brass alloy with nickel added. I have an exact alloy listed in a book around here somewhere, that I can't find at the moment.

I've handled several HI products with "white metal" fittings and whatever it is, it seems to be of good quality. It certainly is not Zamak. Methinks it be closer to Mithril.

Zamak is a zinc/aluminum/magnesium/copper alloy used in gravity and die casting. It is actually a very good alloy that has gotten a bad reputation it doesn't deserve. It's often mistakenly referred to as pot metal, which it is not. It has the strength of cast iron, weight of steel, excellent bearing properties, and excellent casting and machining properties.

Meteorite metal would be great. It's a nickel/iron alloy that only occurs in the vacuum of space.

Nickel silver is a good alloy. It doesn't tarnish like brass.

I actually have a small, metal meteorite, it is about the size of my thumb. I picked it up walking around the AZ Desert. I just thought it looked like a cool "rock" when I picked it up, then I showed it to one of my profs at school. I was still in college at the time studying Soil Science so I took a lot of geology and chemistry and other things most folks hate... He smiled at me and told me I had found myself a nice little "Chunk of the Sky" and I was off, I went back to see my Uncle again and spent may hours in the desert seeking more Sky Rocks. I found a few more rocky ones but that first one is the only one that I found that was metallic. I also have a neat (very small) neck knife a buddy of mine forged from a meteorite. I keep it in my safe deposit box but it is only really worth a lot to me.

OK, sorry, back on topic. :o

Oh, you'd love the metallic meteorite my mom has. It's been in the family for a long time. It's about the size of a peach and shaped like a butt. No, I'm not kidding.

I believe you, I have seen enough weird nature to know that anything like that is possible.
