Tonight I finished a knife that I used white paper micarta for the handle scales. This is only the second knife that I have used micarta nad the first one was black linen.

For some reason the paper micarta seemed more difficult to sand (maybe it's just me). Anyway, after hand sanding the scales with a 400 grit paper I thought they looked pretty good. I went to my buffer to polish up the blade and decided to see what it would look like if I polished the scales.

I run a felt wheel at 1800 rpm and I was using a green polishing compound that comes in a brick form (I don't exactly know what it is). A friend gave it to me because he said it was shipped to him accidentally with some white compound he ordered. After a few passes of the buffer the micarta looked unbelievable, just like polished bone.

I'm sure most of you already know this, I was just excited about the outcome.

There have been a few posts recently about white micarta. You must have had a good piece, and a light touch, because the white stuff is easy to go south on you. Grats bro, white micarta is one of the more difficult materials to finish.

I used white a couple of times, some that I got a couple of years ago from Texas Knife Supply was soft and porus and I couldn't get rid of the spects to save my life.
The last couple of batches I've gotten from Sheffields has been great. No pores, and a lot harder than the Texas batch.
