Im looking at having a br gunny hunter made and have a few questions on the handle material,i know I want white but which material,g10 or white linen macarta. The knife is not going to be a safe queen,it will be my main carry knife when hunting,so water, blood etc might affect decision.I just dont want the white staining.
Also any ideas of a nice liner color other than red.
I might bave a few more questions when i find out what steel is available.
Thanks

With a user, white [anything] is going to stain. Period.

I'd go white micarta over G10 but that's my personal preference for micarta over G10, having nothing to do with the color...

Whichever you go with make sure you invest in some brillo pads and barkeeps friend, you'll be scrubbing it after every use.

To touch on your liner color question; I really like the traditional gentlemanly color combo of white scales over black liners but with white and silver (the steel) you really can't go wrong. Blue, red, even yellow all end up looking beautiful.

I just dont want the white staining.

Then definitely G10.

Sweat and oils from your hands are enough to change the color of micarta. Introduce blood, and yeah, that micarta won’t be pure white for long.

G10 won’t stain like micarta and is easier to just rinse off.

If there is a white phenolic option available it may be your best bet.

Anything white will stain like red wine on white carpet. G10 would definitely hold off the blood and grim a bit better than micarta, nonetheless it'll stain as well. At least with G10 it'll be easier to scrub clean.

My personal preference would be white micarta because it would stain over time, dulling the white to where it'd showcase the hell it went through.

I'd suggest white corian if at all possible, that'll keep the stains away at the cost of being a bit slippery.

If you don't want the white to stain, I think you need to choose something other then white.

I don't know if white kirinite will stain since I've never had a kirinite handle before.

You could go with a white snake juma material. It's fairly impervious. I think chemically it's in the same family as kirinite...
(not my picture, found it via google so if this is your knife and you'd like me to take it down shoot me a message :))

I just ordered a sheet of Ivory G10 from Jantz. I found that pure white (as well as the "aged" ivory Paper Micarta) materials tend to show contamination from the finishing process, such as sanding grit, buffing compound and yes, dirt.

image.jpg Years of duty, not a mark or stain and if you ever scratch it , it buffs out like new. Corian
