Whittler question

I'm in the market for a whittler. Ideally I'd like to find one with the following criteria:
  • carbon blades
  • curved-handle (what is the name of this style?) vs. swell center or sleeveboard
  • splitback spring
  • slim-ish scale material; not stag, for example
I've found knives that have one or more of these features, but none that have them all. I realize the splitback is rare these days, but they are available. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $100, and only that for something very special.

There are a few Boker models available that offer everything but the splitback, and these are very reasonable, in the sub $40 range. But it appears you have to be careful as there are both carbon and stainless versions available, and I've seen conflicting labeling both on vendor sites and on eBay.

Thanks in advance,

My guess is you are talking about a serpentine shape, or a wharncliffe shape. Two different items.
These are wharcliffe whittlers.

Serpentine it is. I already have a Wharncliffe whittler (among many other Wharny blades - one of my favorite styles) in a Case Seahorse. And I just missed an S&M like yours, though in MOP.

Thanks,

These only have half your criteria, Sam;
Serpentine, with wedged backsprings. The designation (model) is 5347WH. Unfortunately(for you!) they have stag handles and SS blades.

That's beautiful, waynorth! That's a 2000 Select? I've seen a couple of current production 6383WH models recently, but that's a swell.

Stag like that would, of course, be fine (there's an understatement); I was thinking more of the chunky stuff seen on German knives these days. I suppose if it was finished properly no handle material would be off limits.
