Does anybody have a brand they reccomend that are real "users"? I have always sold any Case knives I had because I felt they were too pretty to use.

I am looking for sturdy knives at a decent price because they will get used. I personally wont own a knife I feel bad using....not criticizing anyone else just how I was raised. Any opinions welcome and appreciated

They look very nice, but personally I still like natural handle materials even on a user.I would recommend getting something with D2 or 1095 or other type carbon steel, and a nice bone handle.I like Queen,Schatt & Morgan,Canal Street Cutlery knives the best.

Schatt & Morgan makes a really nice barlow. I gave one to my Dad on Father's Day, and wished I had gotten one for myself, too. :P

Queen Carved stag bone with D2 or Moore Maker yellow bone with 1095 (actually made by Queen).

I've got a Queen whittler with Cocobolo that I like as well. I've got a MM whittler on the way.

I love Queen Cutlery products and collect Schatt & Morgan knives as my collectors...

But as a nice user knife I would highly recommend Moore Maker knives bone (Queen) or delrin (Camillus). They are great knives that are affordable and get scary sharp while looking good at the same time...

How about a Boker? I have a Whittler, a razor Barlow, and a Canoe, and they all compare favorably to American counterparts. The "Tree Brand" and "Tang Stamp" series have carbon blades and tend to run a little less than Case.

Well here are 3 that I carry most of the time.
1st one is a schatt 1/2 whittler
2nd one is a queen d2 whittler
3rd one is a schatt dogleg whittler.
I used to keep them real nice also, like you and then one day I said "the heck with that". "I like these so much they are going in my pocket", when I made that decision I enjoyed them even more. The last one-- that dog leg is my favorite. For just a regular pocket knife for bootin around you cant beat a Schrade and they are resonably priced.

Well; Seems people keep mentioning Moore Maker.Going on your advise, I ordered up a Moore Maker singleblade trapper.Funny thing is it looks identical to the Queen mountainman knife. They advertise that Mooremaker makes them in Texas. Is this a situation of Queen making the parts and then Mooremaker assembles them themselves? Anyhow,I'm looking foward to seeing one first hand.

Oh oh pressure is on now...

My understanding is that Moore Maker like everyone else in the knife world does not really make their own knives. Queen makes all their bone & Stag versions and Camillus makes the Delrin handle versions.

It kinda lets the air out of the sail when you first find this out, I was especially disappointed because I had this vision of this little factory in Matador Texas carefully making these knives. I have talked to numerous people who know the owners of Moore Maker and the quality control of what is sold in their name is fantastic and Customer satisfaction is of Prime importance...

I have owned both the Yellow handle Delrin trappers and Muskrats and the Bone Whittlers and Sowbelly knives and cannot say I found one flaw in any of them. They came scary sharp in the package and I still mourn for getting rid of them...

Good luck with your order and please share your feelings and pictures when you get the package..

I always like putting this information up for folks to see who Queen has made knives for..

Here are a few companies that Queen has made knives for:
NOTE: This does not mean that the entire line of a company's knives were/are made by Queen - ie. Queen was/is not the sole manufacturer. For example, Parker had the Bulldog Brand Knives made in Germany, but there were three patterns made in the U.S. by Queen.

Schatt & Morgan (In-house brand)
Robeson (In-house brand)
Old Hickory (In-house brand, 1970's)
Bluegrass Cutlery
Case Classics
Winchester Reproductions
Moore Maker (established 1985. Matador, Texas)
Marbles (Marbles Safety Axe Co.)
NorthWoods (Marbles)
Scagel (Marbles)
John Primble
Bowie Corp.
Chris Tenney - Tenney Trading Co.
A.G. Russell
Cripple Creek (Blackjack)
Family Tree Series For Parker - Kinfolks, Platts, Standard Knife Company, Crandall
Bulldog Brand
Bowen Knife Co (1970's-1980's)
Bob White Cutlery (1970's)
Sargent/Sarco
Voyles Cutlery (1970's)
Kabar
Swanner Cutlery - Fairfield, Ohio
Sampson
Canal Street Cutlery, Ellenville, NY.
Browning U.S.A.

WOW, I didn't realize the list was that extensive.I like Queen alot, but their own brand line sometimes I can find flaws that can overshadow the joy of getting a new knife.I'm glad to hear Moore Maker has set a high standard for what is in their line-up.If the knives are as nice as you say they are, I will definately be adding more to my carry collection. Thanks again for the info.
