I am interest in getting into whittling and carving for fun. Can someone recommend me tools and information to get me started?

Thanks in advance!

1) Buy slipjoint whittler...a Case would be a nice choice.
2) Find stick.
3) Find porch to sit on.
4) Whittle.

That's about all there is to it. Don't overthink it. Enjoy!

I suppose if one wants to get complicated with carving that would work.

Doesn't seem as relaxing as pulling your pocketknife out, grabbing a stick, and commencing to whittle...but to each his own! :D And just using a pocketknife and whittling might be a very good place to start out. Save the complicated gizmos for later when you get better!

Been whittling since I was a youngin age of 10ish.

Get a good Knife, not too big not too small.

-Find a stick or piece of fallen timber. Make sure it ain't to wet or too dry.
-Sit down outside on a crisp day (The day must be crisp; this is very important, walk outside and test to see how crisp it is)
-Proceed to shape the wood with your knife and in fashion of your choosing.
-Cut away from yourself, never towards.
-Think deep thoughts about time and space and how much better the world would be if everything was this simple. (optional)
