Hey guys, im looking for a decent fixed blade for working with wood primarily:

-carving/whittling hardwood
-batoning hardwood
-notching

heres the thing, i have a low budget since i need like 4-5 of these to pass around our carving class.

I've been looking between moras or cold steel's Krup steel economy (Finn wolf/canadian belt knife/roach belly).

I have a mora and i like it but how does the CS krup line compare?

Are there any more similar knives in that kind of price range?

AG russel has some cheap but decent knives in the fixed blade category. What size do you want them to be?

I have a CS Finn Bear, I haven't tried it out camping yet, but it seems decent from holding it in my hand.

If comparing Mora to CS, go with the original and not with the copycat. I have the CS Canadian, and while it is a good "copy", it still is not up to the original design. (btw, "KruppStahl" is just a marketing ploy by CS, Mora carbon steel will be easier to maintain & sharpen.)

A selection of Moras from Ragnar at ragweedforge.com will outfit your carving class. I prefer the 780 Triflex clipper as the basic, then you may want to get a few smaller or larger blades to fill-out your needs.
