Who are some good makers of stainless jacks with wood handles?

I know about Canal Street and the GEC branded blades - and Case, of course - but what are some other makers? I love wood handled knives and I'd like to find more high quality blades made with stainless steels. Pictures are highly encouraged!

A.G. Russell makes a mighty fine looking Pinched Peanut with wood handles. Quince wood if I remember correctly and the blades are some version of stainless. VG10 perhaps. You might find others on his website.

I think Buck makes some wood handled slip joints but I don't know if they make a Jack knife.

Queen made some Zebra wood knives but in D2 steel.

Do you consider D2 as stainless?
Technically they are not
But functionally they are

Queen make a whole bunch of Jacks with Maple and Zebra wood handles

I've only ever had D2 that was coated. Will it patina at all if you use it for food? Or do you really have to leave it out for it to stain or rust?

D2 greys somewhat or spots with food acids, also depends if it is brushed or polished finish. On the whole it does not alter that much, it takes time and it can be taken off with polish. Crypto stainless....:D

The only concern I have with Queen is I've read some QC stories that weren't shining. Then again, I know they stand behind their knives as well and will make it right if I get one that has any kind of problem, so I might just have to give them a shot rather than write them off over some stories. I've enjoyed all the D2 I've used in the past.

They can be a bit hit or miss, but believe me, when they're good they're outstanding.

Boker made this evergreen series two blade stockman, which I consider a jack with olive wood covers and 440 stainless. I won't say 440c in this post 'cause I can't remember. Here's a picture of mine.

I think I'd be looking to Queen. I know they've had some QC problems in the past, but their new ownership won't let you get stuck with a bad one.

Of course, GEC you know about. I'd take a real good look at them too.

Buck makes some pretty decent, inexpensive knives with some wood handles available. It's 420 SS but they heat treat it better than anybody else. Good serviceable knives for not much money.

That's OK Ed. I'll say it for you. "It's 440C." I have one, too. Hard to find. Boker only made 500 for world-wide distribution.

Thanks, Frank. I just wasn't sure enough to say so, and too lazy to go research it.

IMightBeWrong, what pattern(s) are of interest to you?

I think I'd have to specifically recommend you look at a Queen mini trapper in curly zebra. But they have a serpentine jack knife in that series as well. Good looking stuff and the D2 steel is top shelf.

Their Schatt and Morgan line has some knives in the "File and Wire" series with ATS-34, but not sure about wood covers in those series.

I like slim jacks and trappers, although I'm starting to warm up to other models as well like GEC's Teardrop Pattern. I have an eye on the Northwoods Ebony Mini Moose as well.
