After searching the forum for an appropriate spot, I couldn't decide where to place this thread, so here goes, and if it gets the heave ho, I'll understand. Anyway, I have a few pounds of gun grip and knife grip sized pieces of pre ban elephant ivory, and would like to know who the go to folks are who will take my ivory and swap out the scales on a few Case folders I'm thinking about customizing?

Check out glennbad, he's done work for many here.

If you want to get the covers replaced with ivory, do it sooner rather than later. Starting this June, US sales of elephant ivory will be banned. Exceptions will be made for ivory imported before 1990. Documentation (i.e., import certificates) will need to accompany the sales of ivory. Fish and Wildlife will be authorized to confiscate ivory items for sale unless seller can produce said permit document.

In short, the presumption will be that all elephant ivory items are illegal. The burden of proof will lie with the seller to show that the ivory originated from a legal source. It is expected that most knifemakers (and customizers for that fact) will stop working with elephant ivory altogether. The burden is too onerous, the possible penalties too great for them to continue using the material.

Working with bone and ivory is different than working with wood and G10, I'd pick someone that has proven experience with ivory.

Since I've been following this "ban" on elephant ivory, I have come to the conclusion that since I'm not in the sale of ivory, I have no worries. All my ivory has appropriate certificates and bill of sales from long established purveyors of pre-ban legal elephant ivory. That said, I can do what I wish with my ivory, legally, so long as I'm not selling it, which I'm not. I wish to have some traditional folders clad in my ivory, and ask if some here know of a few pros from Dover who can accommodate me. Off topic discussion about the elephant ivory ban should go to the other thread that's been following this ban story...my thread is about who can provide a service such as I have asked.;)

Did you read my entire post? I wrote what I did because it is germane to the discussion. I tried to explain that if you don't get moving soon, you may have difficulty procuring the service you seek. I even provided you with a name.

Off topic? Last time I try to help. How's that saying go, no good deed...

This is worth noting and appears to be relevant to the topic. Just sayin...

Your contribution to the thread has been duly noted...thank you.

I have worked with ivory a lot and love it.It's a great gun grip and knife handle material. Both beautiful and functional. But with the feds coming heavy into the party now it's all over for me.It will even effect Mammoth from what i understand.Just what the country needs, more laws and regulations imposed with controls over private business.
