I've seen a couple of sites that are taking pre-orders for BM42's. Any preferences on who to order from, or best price?

I know that my friends at Knifemart are taking orders.
http://www.knifemart.com or 800-331-3213

Several people will doubtlessly contribute other sources. Whomever you decide to order from, please, please, please tell them that you heard about them on bladeforums.com. You know, a banner ad here on bladeforums costs only $200 year, but that's a lot of money for Mike and Spark, enough to pay the electric bill for several days

Anyway, dealers need to know that their customers read bladeforums.com and that they should advertise here.

I preordered from One stop knife shop. Good price and as Clay said, it helps support the forums.

The first place I found that was taking preorders was the "Knife Outlet" (http://www.knifeoutlet.com/). The price was $109.95 + $5.00 shipping.

I ordered 2 from Jeff Loffer at Cutlery Shoppe @ $114 each, with only 2-3 shipping days UPS ground to Oregon.

Why didn't I think of onestopknifeshop?

But, then I as I was about to order two, I noticed that they only ship via UPS. Bad news. I've had so much trouble with UPS, that I've sworn them off.

The last package I got from them said "ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED" in big letters on the front. I was not home when they came. The driver just left it casually sitting on the front door step. It contained poisonous chemicals for photo developing. I was very upset that it was just left laying around in my neighborhood like that with curious children at play etc.

The time before that, I was to receive a Second Day package from Georgia. After three days, I checked their joke of tracking site and it said "In transit". The shipper finally called UPS on the phone and they finally confessed that the package was lost in one of their depots. I continued to check the web site every day. Finally, it said that the package was in their depot in Tualatine, Oregon just a few miles from my house. I thought, "it will be delivered tomorrow. Finally." It did not come. I called and was told it would be delivered the day after tomorrow (three days after it was supposed to have arrived in Tualatine). When I asked why they originally thought they could deliver it from Georgia to my house in two days but can't get it ten miles in three days, the clerk got very rude with me. Earlier during this episode, I called and asked them to refund the postage since they'd now missed their guaranteed delivery date by several days. They informed me that according to their rules, you can't file that claim until the package arrives. Ok. When it finally did arrive over two weeks later, I immediately called and asked for my refund. They informed me that according to their rules, such claimes must be filed within two weeks of the package being sent. How convienient for them. No wonder it had to sit for three days in Tualatin.

I have always found UPS's customer service people rude.

I refuse to order anything that will have to come UPS. I realize that UPS makes life easy for shippers, but they make life misserable for the customers receiving the packages.

Sorry for ranting, but this is hot topic for me.

I hope Mike can allow some other shipping method.

Hi Chuck

Those are some legitimate gripes re UPS. I was a UPS delivery driver for a number of years down in California, and the practice of porching a package is known as DRD, i.e., Driver Release Delivery. It is allowed in areas deemed "safe" by management teams, and then left to the descretion of the driver. BUT, if the pkg has been stamped "ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED", and the pkg is left without obtaining such, indeed, this is something I've seen over-pressured drivers get in lots of trouble for.
Take care up there.

Just ordered a couple from http://onestopknifeshop.com

Don't forget to order a pair so that you can work on your double bali stuff.

Mike says that if you just note in the special instructions that you don't want UPS, they'll use USPS instead.

It's a nice site and the shopping cart software works well. They still need to work on getting pictures up for everything, but they've got a good inventory and good prices.
