Hi all. Looking to get a Spyderco Stretch in FRN customised. I'm looking for pretty much complete revamping, so I'll need your help looking for someone who can do the following:

-Blade regrind and spine crowning
-Rescaling (preferably with wood. I don't need the nested liners.)
-New clip (Optional but preferred; lowride if that helps)

Another condition: I live outside the USA (in Singapore) so anybody willing to do the work will have to be willing to ship there and trust that I'm not going to jump them without paying :)

Oh, and if you have pics of stuff you have done by these makers/modders, please feel free to put it up as well. Never can have too many photos of pretty knives online :)

There are plenty of well regarded modders in these forums. You may want to check the STR subforum as a start; you have a long list of mods so you will surely have to contact each modder individually to see if they are willing and able to do all mods.

BTW, Why would ANYONE send work off without receiving payment first?

That just does not make sense to me.

yes the only way you will recieve your worked on knife back is when money order is cleared and cashed. Or any other type of payment made would have to clear before your knife will be shipped back to you.

I like your ideas very much though.

cheers

STR or Tom Krein come to mind immediately. Or if you just want it waved you can send it to Charlie Mike. :p

Uh, I don't want anybody to send stuff off without receiving payment. That DOES seem dumb, and of course I'll pay first. I just want to find someone OK with shipping overseas.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll wait for more to roll in, but in the meantime Phillip Dobson's work looks really good. I emailed Cuscadi before, but got no reply-do know they ship worldwide though.

+1 STR for the clip,Tom Krein for any grinding/shaping of the blade,& also Phillip Dobson would be a good choice for re-scaling.

What exactly do you need reground on the blade though? The Stretch is a pretty slim blade as it is.

+1 That is the exact order in which things need to get done.

WongKI, have you contacted local or SE-asian knifemakers to see if they'd be interested in your mod work? I mean why would you send a knife far overseas for work knifemakers do for their own knives. There's nothing special about your mods that I can see. Plenty of really excellent knifemakers in your neck of the jungle :)

Also, aren't there are some knife forums over your area because I think there are? If you'd ask there, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a young knifemaker (or older) willing to do the mods. Unless of course you want your work done in USA.

Hi wongKI -

I would suggest Phillip Dobson for the regrind and scale replacement - you'll be very please with the result.

Then I have to recommend STR for the low-rider clip - I don't think Phillip does clips, but you can always ask him.

Finally, you had better be ready to pony up the due before you can expect either of these makers to ship an item to you. It is unreasonable to expect a person who is in business to send you anything before being compensated for the work.

best regards -

I actually don't know of any-most of my knife knowledge is exclusive to this forum. There are a few "amateur" knife-makers around though. Have not seen or tried any of their work.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll ask around on the local forums. I don't think we have a dedicated knife forum though.

Another Dobson recommendation here. I have 2 knives of his and counting, and he has recently started regrinding.
