I just noticed that the counter on the HI website quit working at 97891. Anybody know how to get it to start counting again?

Uncle, it looks like you got a counter up and running. :) Good for you. :)

I think I've now got two. The old one that got stuck at 97891 and a new one I put up today. That old counter started looking familiar. I don't know how long it's been stuck and don't know why it quit working.

I'm wondering if there is a way that you can set the new counter to 97891+ with out refreshing the page that many times.

Uncle,

Here is the piece of coding that is giving you a problem...

(IMG SRC="counter" )(/TD) (IMG src="/cgi-bin/counter?himimp/index") [NOTE: The ( ) are supposed to be the greater than/less than symbols, but this dayumed system thinks I'm trying to post some code and keeps giving me a broken link symbol. Enough to make you scream it is  ]

It is your counter built into your index page... the first entry [ (IMG SRC="counter)(/TD) ]is what I'm guessing is your old counter... or what's left of it. The number it is stuck on is what was the last number showing in your cgi-bin code (usually located on your server's site I think) when it went FUBAR. The second one is the current counter that is working (the first should look like the second). Now, what to do about it...???

I would try calling the tech support folks at your ISP, or whomever hosts the site to see if they can get your counter back up to its proper number (or close). Or at least, they should be able to tell you that the counter code is in a private folder on your site (in the file structure), that you can access through an FTP program (what you use to load up photos and such). If that is the case, have them tell you how to tweak the dang thing to get it back where it should be...

That's about the best I can do at 1:38 a.m. If I was more awake, I'd go out and look at the universe crashing into the earth... :) .

Good luck with it... holler if all hell breaks loose :D .

I'd saved a copy of that page on my desktop just in case. I checked it to see what the counter html looked like. It was the same as it appears today and said 68,000 & something. So it worked like that for about 30,000 more times and then decided to quit counting.

I probably lost a couple of thousand hits before I noticed that it had stopped counting. It's not critical but is a good indicator. Oh well, nothing like starting over.

Thanks for help, especially to those who went to the trouble of emailing.
