I am going to be in the market for a custom sheath for a RAT RC-4 and/or an Enzo trapper. I am wanting to get a leather sheath that incorporates a Firesteel loop + pouch for a Fallkniven DC-3 sharpener. I want it in black leather.

I am looking for a maker that can make me one in a month or less timeframe, and for a reasonable price. I got a quote from a maker that was $145. To me, that seemed a bit steep, being that I can get a custom sheath AND knife for near that price.

Anybody know who to ask or where to start?

have you read the "master sheath maker" thread that is a sticky at the top of this subforums page (sheaths and such)? i would think that it is a who's who reguarding sheath makers.

also, most should have a back log of work (6-12 weeks).

a basic sheath for a similar sized knife should be about $65-$80 (depending on style). add a firesteel loop maybe $15. add pouch, probably $20- $25. x-strap on back, $5-$10. leather leg chord $10-$15. shipping back to you $10-$15. all my numbers are just guesses.

remember, if the make doesn't have your knife on hand, you'll have to ship them your knife $10-$15.

a custom sheath is a custom sheath. you pay for what you get.

your time frame reguarding turnaround seems unrealistic. also your imagined pricepoint isn't realistic either. if you had done your research, you'd already realize all this.

good luck with your endeavor.

Very well covered and explained. Anything I could add would be redundant. Thanks for your considered and accurate response.
