I want to put a bail on it. That knife needs a bail. Practically begs for one.

The 2016 Blade Forum Knife would work well with a bail. I’ve never seen a bail added to a knife before.

I know a lot of people don’t like bails, but I love carrying a knife on my leather lanyard. It is very secure and I like how it stays upright as it hangs into the pocket.0CFEDE72-D324-4CB3-B880-7A51948D9FE7.jpeg

Should be possible, the White Owl is a single-spring Penknife where some variants have a bail. Nevertheless, it must require a complete dismantling Id've thought, maybe ask Glennbad his opinion?

It depends on where exactly the pivot pin is located, but could be done without dismantling the knife. The White Owl's bail is located closer to the cover end of the bolster.

I’d like to know what you find out. I love bails, and I love my forum knife. I might honestly get a second one, if there was a way to do this.
Thanks, Neal

Yes, that should be done pretty simply. The solid pivot on the awl end would be replaced with a tube pivot, similar to what Travman showed. Lots of 68s and 33s have that. @glennbad is your man.

Yeah I don't think that'd be too bad to do! I'd offer to do it for you, but I've never swung a hammer at somebody elses' knife and would be nervous to do it on one so nice. I don't think you'd completely have to take it apart, just drill the head off the pin that's currently there, then use your new pin stock as your drift pin. Tap it through, peen the bail and you're done. I've replaced pins like this before ~ piece of cake.

If you're looking for a donor bail, I may have one laying around that I took off a Navy knife. It's pretty big and hoopy, but I don't think I messed it up too badly when I ground it off. That said, I wasn't looking toward keeping it, either.
