I have two Ka-Bars that my father carried during World War 2. For both the washers are dried out to some degree.

On one the butt cap is loose. On the other it is gone.

Can you tell me if anyone could repair and replace the butt caps?

As for the leather handles, what is the best way to restore the leather? What type of leather treatment works best?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you all.

For the one missing the pommel, you can get replacement washer sets, and probably a pommel (the flat end piece) as well, direct from Kabar. Just go to their website and get their customer service phone number and give them a call Monday. I've order replacement leather sets from them for "newer" 1980s/90s versions, and since the old ones were made to the same specs they should work.

On the other hand, since they were used by your father during his WW2 service, I would lean toward treating the leather on the one with the loose pommel and displaying it on a shelf or in a shadow box with other items you might have from your father and/or his service, e.g., any medals or uniform patches, a photo of hiim in his uniform, etc.

Leave them alone.

If you have pictures of him with them in theater.
They are historically collectable.

Leave them be! Just make sure you keep them in a cool dry place. You have a unique piece of history on your hands just cherish them as is :)
