I just reciently did a hand rub finish on a bead blasted Benchmade CQC7 blade that was showing some ware after 4 years of use.
I started by taking the knife apart, starting with 400 grit wet sandpaper I went at it until the porous finish was as smooth as the 400 would do and then went to 600 for aprox 45 minutes and finished by polishing the blade with simichrome polish and a good coating of oil.
Result,I am very pleased with the outcome and will be performing the same procedure on a few of my other production folders except I will progress to 1200 grit insted of stopping at 600.
Stopping at 600,when looking at the blade you can see a hazy outline of yourself sort of simi polished were 1200 will bring a more defined reflection just short of a mirror polish which is more appealing aesthetically IMO.
