I do. A 880T. Though some people might think that it is too large and heavy as an EDC and its finish is hard on clothes. That's why I carry it in a Raine sheath - a quality product also. Weight-wise since I am having it on the belt I don't feel much of it. Just love this baby. :D Anyone else?

I have a Buck/Strider Spearpoint Mini that is always with me in my briefcase. In my back pocket is a Strider SnG- both are awesome knives:)

Tok: What is a Raine Sheath. Could you provide some details, please. I love the knife, but I have a couple pairs of jeans whose right hand pockets feel differently. Thanks.

I havehad mine for over a year and a half (large tanto).

I can understand it when people say that the knife is huge, not a real pocket friendly knife, etc. I felt that for a few days when I got my B/S. But after a few days, I felt that most other knives are just too damned small! Look at handles on other hand tools people usually use, such as hand saws, chisels, hammers, kitchen knives even: most handles on these tools are thicker than your usual pocket knife! For me, the Buck/Striher handle is a great handle on this tool. Bos heat treat is awesome for sure. I'd love a spearpoint to go with my tanto! I used to carry a SAK for light cutting chores, but lost it :( But I did get me and my groomsmen SAK Soldier models as gifts! So Soon I'll have a SOldier and a Buck/Strider with me for EDC. Hopefully one day too a nice Strider framelock!

Crayola, I truly agree that once after u've found yourself comfortable with the B/S size, u will find that almost all other knives are too small! The strange thing is contrary to most ppl's first impression on this knife (mine also), it is actually quite comfortable to hold and handle. Just hard to beat the confidence that it delivers to the user's hand when holding one. Just out of curiosity, though, do u carry yours in sheath too? To me it's probably the only way I found to carry it comfortably. (like i said the sheath on the belt simply takes away most of the folder's weight, which is so nice. Besides, I don't have to worry about how rough the knife's handle is on clothes anymore.)

And Rob, Raine is a company that makes Nylon pouches for knives/ammo. Feel free to check out their website www.raineinc.com I just love my sheath from them it's comfortable to wear and even the tough G10 on the B/S 880 simply won't eat it up a bit. Quality is great too. Mine is the vertical carry #0006, which has a horizontal carry version as well. I think #0004 will fit the knife nicely too. Hope u will enjoy it as much as I do.

Loodieboy, just one more thing, did u find a place which makes pocket sheath for the Mini Alpha Hunter yet??

I have the Buck Strider full size spear point and it is a great knife. I don't carry it as an EDC because the handle is just too wide for me in front pocket carry. I am no stranger to large folders, I routinely carry a REKAT Sifu, a Camillus Maxx, or a XL Cold Steel Voyager all of which are bigger than the Buck Strider. I prefer to take the BS and reserve it for carrying in a jacket or vest while hunting or camping. The Buck Strider does not carry as well for an EDC knife, just my opinion and we all know opinions are like............

I have an 881 spearpoint that gets rotated in. I just reprofiled the edge to 30 deg on my sharpmaker. That took awhile! It was worth the effort!! The original edge was too thick for my use.

I have a Buck/Strider large spearpoint that I carried as an EDC for a little while. I tried it in my pocket but it was just to big, width wise especially. Then I had it in a Raine sheath also and while it carried nice that way, I still prefer my EDC to be clipped to my right front pocket. It's a great hard use knife but it's just to big for me personally.

After that I went to a small classic woody Sebenza which is a great EDC size and I just got a Strider SNG yesterday that I'm loving for EDC. The SNG has a great handle shape, great size and is much slimmer so it carries really well in the pocket.

Tok,

I carry my B/S clipped in my right front pocket.

I originally carried it in a sheath, but I went back to RFP a long time ago. That's just where a knife feels at home for me! I keep little else in that pocket.

Hi Crayola,

I would like to carry it in a simplier way too. But do u find its scales are hard on jeans? And what do u think about the weight for pocket carry? Personally I found it much lighter to carry in a sheath.

TOK, i know you didnt ask me,but i didnt like the way mine wore on my jeans. Off came the clip, into a sheath and something else gets carried RFP when I'm carrying the 881.

Hey Guy g, Hehe no I don't like the way the knike's handle eats up my jeans also. That's why it's always in a Raine sheath. I really like the way I carry it in a sheath. I think it's the best home for this beauty. :)

Which would you guys recommend to be a better EDC/work knife the spear or tanto point and large or mini? I'm trying to decide which one to get. thanks :)

TOK,

I find the weight fine. Maybe I just got used to it, I dunno! I often "forget" that it is there. Also, though my folder is of the older style, its scales aren't super abrasive. I recall that the newer ones coem with ambi studs, heat treated liners and less aggressive scales. I'd recommend tanding rough scales, or sending the knife to Buck and seeing if they'll upgrade your "rougher" knife! Oh, maybe I don't mind the weight because it is the only thing I carry in that pocket usually. Often I have my Maxpedition Termite Versipack with me on my left side which houses keys, wallet, digicam, sharpener, multi-tool and Surefire flashlight. I feel the weight of that WAY more than a folder in my pocket!

Powell, get the large spear. Not that the tanto is bad, or the minis are bad, but I think the spearpoint is better for all around utility chores, and the large size offers more cutting edge, which is awesome. I'd love a large version of each, and I will have a large spear to go with my tanto unless I save up for an SMF/AR.

I definatly agree with Crayola on the spearpoint. The large is also a good choice. I own and use the 881 spearpoint.(mini) It has IMO better blade shape and has a longer cutting area than my Buck 112.If you are limited to a smaller size then the mini spearpoint is a good choice. If not you'll like the Full size.I also reprofiled my 881 to thin the blade angle so it would slice better.

Crayola, I once got lots of "gear" with me too but I've just got this trend inside me lately to literally travel light. :) "Downsized" the light from an Inova x5 to a photon a while ago. But I just found that for knife I simply can't compromise for the size. To me it's the bigger the better to be useful as an EDC - my definition is a tool that will get the owner through any situations that throws at him/her, from opening up letters or self defence. And no I have no problem with the "rougher" scales too since it is in a sheath. I have the older version also and personally I just like it better cuz i think the roughness makes it feels tougher and that's a character of this knife.

Powell, yup get the spearpoint for utility purpose. and the large one too, remember - to save u from keep thinking about to get the big version everyday later on, should u got the mini version. :) I love my tanto and i have no idea of switching it to a spearpoint.. but it's hard to deny that indeed there are some edc tasks that the SP will do better (like open up letters) but then again... I luv the cool look of the tanto so I will have to take it as a trade off, well nothing's perfect. :D

TOK,

You and I are on the same page here, for sure! I prefer a 4"ish folder for EDC. When cutting all of the cardboard I did this week, the "large" folder I used, as comapred to , say, a small stockman, sure shone. The "long" cutting edge cut and cut and cut, and I could process the cardboard fast. I wish I had the Mora I sharpened and gave to by pal, but I don't carry that with me anymore, and when I did still own it I still didn't carry it; but my Buck/Strider went with me everywhere! And still does. I must have an AR/SMF!

Crayola,

Yup it is one cool knife. Not to mention that the flicking action to open it up is addictive to me too. :D
