I am curious how many people carry a Chinook / Chinook II as an EDC / utility knife, as opposed to SD purposes?

I carry my CII mostly on weekends (Dodo during the week), and it's been used to carve up watermelon.

The blade is a little too thick for an ideal watermelon knife, but it's far better than what my mom brought to the picnic (nothing). ;)

Hi bls:

I used to rotate my CII as an edc; for utility only. However, I've gotten a Manix, and find that it's a better utility edc. It's pretty much replace the CII in that role.

Regardless, I also carry something smaller(Calypso Jr, Salsa, Dodo) on me, and keep the larger piece in my bag. Boston is a bit prickly about large blades in public.

Best regards

The Manix does look like a very well designed knife, with perhaps a more practical blade style for utility purposes. But - forgive me for saying this - for some reason I just think it looks a bit ugly. Maybe it's just me...

The Chinook II might throw a scare into some people, but to me it looks kinda' cool. Not the most practical consideration, though.

I carry an original Native on my strong side hip, and I use that knife for utility.
I carry my Chinook II in the small of my back and by no stretch of the imagination would I use it for utility.

I steel and ceramic my Chinook II about every two weeks just to repair the damage that sweat, oxygen and cosmic rays have inflicted on the edge.
I would not take even one atom of steel off of that incredibly sharp edge for mere utility reasons.

If anyone notices my Chinook II in my waistband and asks about it, I do not pull it out and show it to them.
If one of the secretaries in the office asks for something to open a box, I do not whip out my Chinook II and CHUNK it open.
I would sooner show everyone at work my collection of human ears (no, I do not have a collection of human ears).

A Chinook II as an EDC utility knife?
Maybe for a carpenter or a game warden, but not for me.
If anyone ever sees my Chinook II, then, "Houston, we have a problem."

I carry mine every day even if it has to go in the left pocket so I can carry a fixed on the right side. I use it for utility with nary a second thought and if needed for SD I know it will still be plenty sharp enough to do whatever it will be called upon to cut, be it organic or plastic. I do love this new S30V steel. It's very good steel in the edge retention dept.
Pair the Chinook II with a Manix and you'll have the perfect right pocket/left pocket combo. I will be getting a Manix soon as I can scrape the money up for one, BTW. ;)
