I just acquired a Rookie and Standard within a few weeks of each other. I love both of these, and now rotate these with my Delica.

Who else carries these on a regular basis, and why do you like them?

I EDC a SS plainedge Rookie. I like the feel of the Police model, but I often worry about getting in trouble for the blade being too long. The Rookie is a nice compromise. Also, I prefer ATS-55 to whatever steel they're using in the SS Delicas nowadays (AUS-6? AUS-8?? I forgot  ) It's slimmer and weighs less than the SS Calypso Jr, and again, there's the issue of blade steel. Not that there's anything wrong with AUS-8. I cut my teeth on ATS-55, so I'm probably a bit biased. It's held up great over the years, so I guess I just trust it more.

i carry a g10 standard, asrotating edc with a black yojimbo and se native and - dress occasion - a ssteel copilot or navigator.

i love the g10 standard, even if a little hefty and bulky for nowadays standards (ah ah) 'cause its' classical style and the perfect proprotions.. yeas i'm an esthete/knifenut ;)

My brother and I both carry a rookie as an every day carry in the outdoors. A great knife which should not have been discontinued, IMHO. I bought several for $40.00 at a SMKW sale long ago.

The edges on mine are worn smooth by blue jeans and camo pants. I have gutted deer, opened bags, cut rope, punched holes, sliced meat, cut up vegetables and eaten with mine more times than I can count.

The ATS-55 steel is serviceable. The G10 handles are great.

I carry a g10 standard and love it. Its slim and perfectly sized for edc in an office environment. Mine is serrated and does a great job on boxes and envelopes and string and finger nails and I am sure would hanlde harder tasks though I seldom encounter them in my daily work. Awesome knife, wish I could find a plain edge version and wish they were ambi.

I alternate between a G-10 Spyderedge Rookie and a Buck 560 (love titanium) depending on what size knife I'm in the mood to carry. I got the Rookie at that same SMKW sale. It's a lot of knife for the size and the money. I, too, am sorry that model was discontinued as I'd love to have a plain-edge or two.

I carried both a PE Standard, a PE SS Rookie, and an SE G-10 Rookie for a little while each. Both knives should perform excellently as your EDC.

I have one of each & would happily put them into EDC rotation if I could replace them easily if lost/damaged.
Retired my favorite Wegner for that very reason- haven't gotten the BladeTech version yet.

There is a NIB SE Standard on the trade forum right now.
I know the guy looking for a trade and he is great to deal with :D

I alternate between a G-10 Spyderco Standard and an A.G. Russell Featherlite when I'm wearing jeans. I picked up the Standard a few years ago at a gun & knife show for $20 and it has been a great knife. At first, I thought that it would be a little too thick closed, but I don't really notice it when I'm carrying it. The ATS-55 steel hasn't given me any problems.

I have a G-10 PE Rookie and a G-10 SE Standard. I think the Rookie is my favorite Spyderco knife. I would love to have one in VG-10 or S30V without the swedge, but it works fine the way it is. I never understood why the Delica survived but the Rookie, which is roughly the same blade length, was killed off. To me the Rookie, is both more aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing, although the Delica is a fine and useful knife.

I often carry my PE & SE G-10 Standards. They are great with DIY chores around the house!
