Who collects only rare and valuable knives?

I am sure that there are some of us who collect knives for their value, just as serious stamp collectors go for those Sotheby-type stamps.

Guide books on knives reveal that those knives which are few in number and are out of circulation about 50 years ago fetch much higher prices than the newer ones.

I guess if one is totally focused on the monetary aspect of knife collecting, this would be one way to go about it.

Of course, this would mean a heavier-than-usual investment on choice knives. The idea would be to sell it to the highest bidder or even to auction it. In this way, the returns would be higher.

But it may take the fun out of the game, so to speak.

Are there many knife collectors who belong to this category?
