I would carry and use my jyd2 more often had it more subdued styling. the worst part is that pocket clip, but i could do without the pattern on the g10 as well.

any recommendations for a rescale and new clip? oes the new composition d2 bladed jyd2 have the same clip?

maybe i should just remove the clip and wear a sheath.

mag22, you can ask Steve here about some modifications, but thinking about changing the clip and scales, why not sell or trade it for something that fits your requirements. A Cyclone, ZT0200, or Bump might suit you a little better.

One of the nice things about the JYD is the styling. It's unique!

I took off the clip on my JYD II and took my Dremel Mototool to it and narrowed it way down...I totally removed the "points" that stick out from the sides of the clip and that made a nice difference in the look and feel of the knife. I left about 1/16th of an inch of metal on the sides of the holes that run down the middle of the clip.

Yes, the new JYD II Composite has the same clip. People seem to either love or hate the JYD clip. If it bothers you that much, you could contact STR here on the forums and have him make you a new clip. As far as the scales go, you might be able to sand them down a bit and polish them, but you would lose the grip that the texture has to offer. If you sand them down, be sure to use good a mask. G-10 in your lungs...not good!

Cheers,
Jon

i like the blade and grip. the heart and soul, really. mine also has a personalized etch on the blade.

the pattern and clip seem like minor features, only skin deep. Orange g10/frn/micarta and a more subtle clip would really make it mine.

I can understand you wanting to mod your knife to make it your own. Afterall, we'd all still be driving Black Model T's if we didn't have the urge to unique, or have our tools better suit our needs.

You've received some good advice on the pocket clip. See if you can grind it to a shape that will better suit your use, use a Dremel or Belt Sander, and have at it; being safe of course.

As far as the scales go, the pattern doesn't work for me either. No disrespect to the designer, I mean, I get it, but the pattern just doesn't work for me. That being said, maybe venture into making some scales out of Textured G10. You'll still have the grip you need without the pattern. Or walk on the wild side with some Laminated G10.
Keep us updated with your project. Good luck.

As far as the clip goes, STR (Steve Rice) can probably make you a foldover type clip that will enable the JYDII to literally dissapear into your pocket with nothing but a little pen like clip showing. He did it for my Tyrade and that is why my Tyrade has become my edc for now. If Steve has a JYDII you won't even have to send the knife as he can make the clip from his, if he has one. If not you would have to send your knife, but the turnaround is quick and he keeps you informed along the way. His prices are also very good! Give him a holler.

Dirk from Oupa's Outback Work Shop does some nice work but he isn't taking anything on until June (I think). I have a couple of JYD IIs, a set of natural canvas micarta sacle blanks, a set of green micarta scale blanks and some red spacer material all just waiting for some of Oupa's magic. Both knives will likely get the afore mentioned lowrider clips as well.
