Just got back from one of the local Xmas tree farm, a little flask of brandy and some family and friends, and we bagged 3 trees.

Cut your own plastic or precut tree, what's your poison?

I diod that one (a friend of mine own a decent-sized forest with many spare trees :D ). Over here sales of Xmas trees are usually at least partially regulated - government service that takes care of the national forests picks trees that would clutter the space / obscure the light or in any other way hamper the growth of other trees and chop those down. People can then buy them relatively cheap.

Personally ... i don't understand what the fuss is all about, i could do much better without that tree (expenses + cleaning up needles afterwards = a bad idea).

We cut our own every year. Idaho allows each family to cut two off of state managed lands. We usually get three or four families together and make a day of it, including the requisite hot chocolate, boiled hot dogs, sledding and snowball fights.

I tried to last year, but the local Anchorage Police department stopped me half way thru. Felt bad considering they led me away in hand cuffs.

All kidding aside. I think I will go fake this year. Maybe get a bonsai next year. So my answer: Fake tree :(

We did one year, but the neighbors were pissed off. :D

Actually, we did a couple times several years ago. I remember going to the "cut your own tree" park with saws and a hatchet, in the snow, to cut a tree down. IIRC, it cost just as much as a regular tree.

Mines plastic :(

I think that's kina cool. Less hassles, except that you have to store it.

I don't think we need trees. Isn't Christmas trees a fairly recent thing (History channel or something)? I think it's a bad tradition and when I move out, I probably won't have one, I'll think of something else.

Actually my grandmother had like a 2 foot, like petrified tree with little easter egg ornaments on it last year. I think I could get one of those.

To each their own, but with so much time for each tree to reach a decent height, and with such a shortage of oxygen bearing plants, I think cutting the tree is one tradition that should go... no offense to those who want to do it...

A plastic tree, probably safer and much more enviornmentally friendly...
Not that I'm s treehugger or nothing... go kill a mink for fur instead... :D

Here in Nevada you can get a tree permit for less than 5 bucks and cut your own on public lands. We used to do it but it's messy and can be a fire hazard. We started using artifical a few years ago and the wife likes it much better.

I think I have allergies, I always have nasal problems around christmas time. After we get a tree....

But being a firefighter,I love real tree's. Always good for a fire or two a year.

Hey while were at it,buy your friends lots of candles for xmas, they're good for about 30 fires a year for my dept.

I love the holidays. ;) We cut our own btw.

real tree for us. Plastic are nice and clean, but it would be hard to replace the smell and fun of picking a tree out.

When my parents first moved onto their land about 40 years ago, they used to go out every year and shoot down their tree with a shotgun -- seriously. :)

The alternative to plastic or cut is balled. Then ya can plant it in the fall.

Keeps the natural balance of things.

The wife has dictated a fake tree. It looks fine. Much cheaper in the long run even for a high quality fake.

I don't really care, bah, humbug. Although it might be fun to cut a XMas tree with my HI WWII khuk!

Beware when & where you cut ! Some years ago I spotted a beautiful evergreen in a wide ,tree lined median on I-95 just South of Daytona Beach. In Florida trees are very expensive so I kept watch on this one as I went up & down the interstate. Finally the day came & I put an axe in the back of the station wagon & started out. Suddenly I realized the bow saw might be better so I went & got it .Lucky thought ! As I started to ease into the copse of trees I saw a 7 foot FHP trooper loading MY tree in his trunk !
Think I paid $39.95 for our tree but think it was really cheap compared to what the other could have cost.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Uncle Alan
