Just curious...was it someone on the forum? I've done a mite of searching but wanted to know if someone could clarify. Thanks.

IIRC i thought it was designed by Cobalt...before my time, though.

I did...of course, that was in a dream when I was six...

Someone else *may* have picked up my thoughts though...

The HI sales website says it is a BirGhorka take on the American Bowie...wondered if anyone else had any input or what the story was.

My memory's a bit foggy on the subject, but I believe that Cobalt originally came up with the design concept and Yvsa altered/refined the design to its present day form. Yvsa (or anyone with better memory), can you clarify please?

It was Cobalt. The spine was originally 1/2", but quickly evolved into the 7/16ths and 3/8th inch spine. I liked the 1/2" spine - some of the extra tough "real man's" Bowies were advertising they were made 1/4" thick steel.

I'm think Yvsa made the wooden model that was sent over.

Big Bob & Rusty are both correct. Uncle Bill was getting kinda frustrated at what the kamis kept coming up with. The AK Bowie model was the first of the wooden models.:D ;)

Yvsa,
You did read that post, didn't you? Where I told you the Krag rifle had an experimental Bowie bayonet that I swear looks a lot like your Cherokee Rose. The blade was not adopted.

You've mentioned an old knife -I think- that you borrowed from in designing the Rose. Could you tell me about the birth of the Rose?

Not the Musso...another...Kagel? Skagle? Something like that...it's late and I've had a hard day...

Munk, I borrowed part of the design from the Southwestern Bowie style and then done my best too add a Scagel influence.
The Scagel influence shows up in the handle position, the undercut at the rear, and the wholly convexed blade.
The kamis rendered it pretty fair.:D  ;)

The AK Bowie most resembles what a kitchen cleaver should be. The only difference for me is that the blade is slightly curved.

Were AK Bowies ever made with straight edges, like the Seax? Then you'd have the ideal kitchen cleaver/chopper/knife, IMHO. My AK Bowie makes those frozen chicken backs fly like fireworks!

Out of the mouths of lambs. Cog, I have been saying this for some time. I want the Kamis to make a few with a straight edge. One would then have a modified Bowie for trail use, and have an awsome cleaver in the Kitchen.
