Who do you trust for mods?

I’ve got a 78 in smooth white bone coming in and I’d like to do an EZ-Open mod. I’m not skilled enough or set up to do it myself with the factory-quality finish I want.
Is there a member here that does mods regularly that you would trust with your knife?
Thanks!

Any good tool and die shop can do it...…. Just explain to them what you want done...…… Where you live there should be many shops nearby…..

I have only had experience with glennbad from here. Very good experience!

Same here. Glenn is very skilled, and he’s a heckuva nice guy to boot.

With that said, adding an easy-open notch is the very simplest of mods, so a tremendous amount of skill isn’t a requirement.

I’ve done it myself, and I’m not the most dexterous guy on the planet. The trick is to lay everything out very carefully and take your time.

Here's a couple I've done recently...

I used a dremel with course sanding wheel and finished with higher grit wet/dry sandpaper.

A small sanding drum on a Dremel works great. Just start a good deep guide notch cut with a triangular file. I've done a few of these without screwing up and I'm NOT very skilled. Try it on an old cheapo knife for practice.--KV

Thanks guys.
I appreciate the feedback.
I sent a message to glennbad glennbad this morning.
I would loose a lot of sleep if I messed this up so I’m going to let the pro handle it. I may try it on one of my beaters though.
Thanks again.

Paul, your EZ open notches always look well placed, which is an important aspect of them turning out looking good, in my opinion. Do you mind me asking what size wheel you use?

Thank you Mark, it's the 1/2 inch drum that I use. I told a member today in a pm that I adhere to the less is more rule. I can always take more off later.

You can also do it with a half-round file and then put sand paper on it and rotate/twist it to get the marks going in the “correct direction” and then go finer until it matches the rest of the knife. It’s more difficult to go to far when doing by hand.

I do EO mods with a spindle sander. Lots of wood workers will have 1 if you have wood working friends and they are hard to screw up with patience on them. Much more controllable than a Dremel but a Dremel will work if you can't access a spindle sander.

I'd be happy to help you out if you need it. Mods are backed up and I quit taking orders a while back, but EO notches and blade deletes can be squeezed in any time. Just holler and we'll work it out. But any of the other guys mentioned here would also come highly recommended from me as well! Glenn does amazing work and has done knives for me long before I ever cut my first apart and the ones I've seen from Paul look great too. It's nice to have options!
