I was cleaning my Cold Steel Voyager the other day when I noticed a Small #2 on the inside of the handle. Does this mean it was a Factory Second? I bought the knife off E-bay several years ago, don't remeber from whom exactly though, for $54.
If it is a Factory Second, then I'm even more impressed with the knife than I have been. This is one Tough Knife... and I have never found Anything Wrong with it.
Can any of you Cold Steel Fans out there answer this?

You are correct, the 2 means a factory second. I have a large tanto voyager FS, and it is a second. I can not find a thing wrong with it other than it likes to cut me every once in a while .

I had a factory 2 CS SRK and the olny thing I noticed was some extra material on the spine close to the handle was not completely ground off, did not affect anything other than the looks if you even noticed it.

I acquired a Medium Tanto Voyager at a gun show with the same mark, and an additional mark on the right side in front of the pocket clip. Great knife; I've never had a problem with it.

That gave me a good, well needed laugh during exam week.
If you've had good service from it (from what I understand, you have) then it is not a problem.

What does "factory second" mean?

They are knives that had some form of "flaw" usually cosmetic, that made the knife unfit for full retail sale, so makers sell them at discounts to get rid of them.

A buddy had a Cold Steel Recon SCout that was a second, and it had the "2" on it also.

I have No Problems with the Knife... Its awesome.
But I am a little peeved because I was under the Impression that it was a Regular Edition when I purchased it off E-Bay.
Guess I'll just have to be more careful on the bay...

Always a good idea, that's the down side of factory seconds, dirtbag sellers can send them off to someone, knowing a lot of folks can't put the time and effort into dealing with it from hundreds of miles away.

If the seller never told in the listing it was a second, start a thread in GB&U and post their name as a heads up to others.

I have a Cold Steel gunsite folder and the zytel handle has also a 2 mark in the handle.I have found nothing wrong with it and since I bought it new from their Special Projects division.I find it hard to believe that my knife is a second.Since it wasn't mentioned that it was a second in their catalogue. The 2 on the zytel handle could easily be a 3 or a 5.Just look around your house for plastic items and you will see what I mean.I just looked at the underneath the knob of my glue stick and found a 7.I don't know why plastic parts are stamped with number but maybe it has something to do with the mold.

The only factory seconds that I've heard of,are their fixed bladed knife where a Big 2 stamped on the butt end of a knife.

Actually,I remember calling Cold Steel about a decade ago, wanting to by a second that I saw in their Special Projects catalogue and the response I got from the lady on the other end was of laughter. This was when I was new to knives and didn't know better.

I was just looking at some Cold Steel folders, including an older Vaquero Grande. They all show numbers. The Vaquero in my hand now ismarked #1. It is a number that is molded into the plastic when the plastic was extruded into the mold. I don't think Tomahawks number 2 signifies a second. It's different than if it was stamped on later. That's the way it looks to me. Joe

Could be two different things then, buy the look of it, the "2" on the Recon Scout I mentioned earlier, was melted in to the Kraton, afterwards, not when it was molded.

That's my opinion anyway. I've seen the fixed blade seconds and have seen the "2" on the end as you describe. I think we are talking a different animal here. The numbers in my voyagers and grandes are different. They were molded in, ie: part of the mold at the time of the plastic extrusion. I'd think they couldn't tell by that time if the knife was going to get messed up later. IMO, it's a mold identifyer number.

I don't know what cold steel's policy on zytel folder seconds is. All I can really do is guess though.
