i really like my BM 155 Presidio Fixed Blade, but the coating is crap. on my Nimravus, which had an equally crappy coating, the solution was obvious - i sanded it all off and polished it. now, i have a really sweet lookin Nim. BUT, the Presidio has such a nice contrast with the double serations being unfinished, that i hate to strip the blade and have the serations the same as the rest of it. the coating is badly worn simply from being in and out of a kydex sheath.

who would y'all recommend for DLC or similar coating that will hold up and remain attractive? i'm not looking to spend that much, i understand good work doesn't come cheap, but i don't want $100 finish on a $150 knife, either.

suggestions?

thanks

I don't think you'll find any place to do a DLC finish for cheap, most of the coating jobs we send out my shop (black oxide, galvanizing, type II anodizing, etc.) run in the hundred of dollars for pretty small parts.

well, that's not cool :(

do you (or anybodyelse) have any recomendations for a economical finish? i know there has to be cheap alternatives because 40 and 50 dollar Cold Steel knives come with an (epoxy?) coating that str8 kix the bajeezus out of anything i've ever seen from Benchmade. i don't want to call Cold Steel and ask if they'll finish my Benchmade... although, i guess i could :D

Ionbond, Richter Precision, Crystallume, and several others. I think you need an account for Ionbond, you can go through an intermediary. Springer Precision does handguns, but maybe they would include your blades in a batch order. The price is not that high, just look at the cost difference between plain and DLC coated knives. Shouldn't cost you more than $20-30 I would guess, SP only charges $15 for magazines. I couldn't say, the blade is a flat surface, but it is long-ish.
