I'll make this poll anonymous. I figure there are some landmarks on the post count that members should pull one. When would you do your first give away?

Ahh, crap, hit post before I could do the poll.

ive done a few.

the one that was most fun required entries to include a photo. i had a few members help me choose 5 finalists, then had a poll to choose the winner. i think that's how it went.

i think it was guyon, who won a pair of steiner binoculars.

Nobody in Blade Forums should feel/be obligated to do a giveaway -- PERIOD!!!

There are probably (actually are) many members that give knives away behind the scenes that we never hear about and don't want recognition for doing it.

i dont pay much attention to my post count but i'm going to have a give away soon. i'll pick someone and give them a knife or maybe make a kit so they can build it.

I'm gonna do on for my 1,000 post, I've been thinking about what to give away lately as the mark is going to be coming up here before much longer.

I would have done 1000 post giveaway if I had a bit better financial situation then, but I'll try to do something twice fun when I reach 2000. :)

I plan on having one around my 1,000 post count for my BF friends and customers, and try to do a little more for everyone here. I also have a email newsletter that I send out to subscribers on my website and I plan on doing some there very soon. Far more subscribers actually look at the email newsletter than I thought would so I'm going to do some things to take care of them as well.

I did one at 1000, 3333, 4000. Also had one in the Cove.
Have also gifted 23 knives to individuals here on the forums.

Looks like I might have one coming up at 5555. :)

I've done a few giveaways, and given some away behind the scenes- but there is no expectation of having one. I'd like to do one for my 2626 post but can't afford bills right now, so unless it takes a while I'm not going to.

I've held a few. Last one I did required that, to enter, one must post a joke of some sort. Should've thought about it before posting, and before I knew it, it was moved over to the W&C.

Happens to everyone at least once, I guess. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy, like I was just initiated.

I'm sort of slow so I didn't notice the tradition until after my 1000th post. I did a double giveaway at 1500 and I just did one at 2001.

I'm fortunate enough to have accumulated more knives than I can ever use, so I'll probably continue to do a giveaway every 1000 posts as long as I'm an active BFC member. I think I'll try something clever for 3000, like requiring a picture or restricting it to paying members or something like that.

CM, there's absolutely no obligation or pressure to do so. Not hosting one is certainly not a reflection on anyone's character.

Many of us do it (both privately and via giveaways on the forum) because it makes us happy to share our passion and to give back for the enjoyment we derive from our participation.
It's that simple.

There's enough things to worry about in life. Don't let this be one of them.

I never have.

I find sometimes that I have a knife that I got way back when that may have become valued among collectors. If I haven't been using it or it has been sitting gathering dust I would rather give it to a collector than sell it to them. I think that they appreciate it more and it makes me feel good. Yeah, I could use the money from time to time, but we are a group of people who have the same interest and why not make someone else's day a little nicer.

I have done 4 giveaways on BF. About to do 10K giveaway for a waved boker kerambit.
