Who Dunnit?

Had a diamond shaped eye. Stamped 3 1/2 and 18 or 81 on the bottom of the bit. Obvious overlay-ed bits. It's as skinny as they come in eye walls and the bits. Anyone recognize the maker?

Ha! That’s an Emerson Stevens and the second one today!looks like that could be a 1918. Look for a letter right between you finger and thumb tips. Look at the thread called I Need Advice From The Pros.

Unfortunately no other stamps are visible. We just don't see these out here.

Several Maine makers made diamond eye doubles. Possibly some of the big manufacturers also, but not sure on that. Yours is probably a E&S because of the date stamp.

KATCO and S&N also had diamond shaped eyes on double bits. Maybe others but I have examples of those two.

The evidence for e&s is somewhat compelling. Can you take a close up of the weight stamp? Perhaps we can compare the font with known examples. I have yet to see an e&s with a diamond eye... Has anyone here ever seen one? I thought I'd add a couple photos to compare font.

Spiller also used a date stamp, but had quite fancy lettering for the weight

I might get around to it this summer. Localized heat and spread it with couple of R&R spikes for wedges should get it close enough to be hafted. This one isn't that bad as the dents are all on the bottom edge(both sides). They might have done that in an attempt to fix a loose head. Looks intentional anyway.
